SPORTS MINISTER INAUGURATES 35th MIZORAM CIVIL SERVICES ANNUAL SPORTS & CULTURAL MEET, 2024-25
Aizawl : Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, the Minister for Sports & Youth Services, inaugurated the 35th Annual Sports & Cultural Meet, 2024-25, organized by the Mizoram Civil Services Sports & Cultural Association at Ramhlun Indoor Stadium.
During his address, the Sports Minister expressed concern over the limited representation of Mizoram at national and international sports events, despite the state’s love for sports. He emphasized the need to nurture and support talented athletes to ensure they can compete at the highest levels. He mentioned the ongoing efforts by the Sports Department to prepare for potential participation in the 2036 Olympics.
The Minister urged all government employees participating in the event to encourage their children to engage in sports, maintain healthy diets, and adopt a disciplined lifestyle starting now. He also called upon them to prioritize their health and fitness to ensure a healthier Mizoram and to represent the state on national and international stages in sports.
The Annual Sports & Cultural Meet has been held since October 1, 2024, continuing the tradition of fostering unity and healthy competition among government employees. It is an opportunity for participants to develop camaraderie, physical fitness, and mutual understanding.
In his report, General Secretary Pu Rosangliana highlighted the participation of six sports disciplines and various cultural events, including Cheraw (bamboo dance) and Chheih lam. The overall champion was the Police (Un-Armed) team, with Group 2 (Education Department, DIET, and SCERT) taking second place, and PHED securing third. A total of 403 medals were awarded: 110 Gold, 106 Silver, and 187 Bronze.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Pu H. Lalhmingthanga, MCS, President of the MCSS & CA, who expressed gratitude to all participants. This year’s Sports Meet saw the participation of around 1,800 employees from 65 departments under the Mizoram government.
