Israeli Army Reports Killing of Hezbollah HQ Commander
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Tuesday the death of Suhail Hussein Husseini, commander of the Hezbollah headquarters in Lebanon. The IDF confirmed that Husseini was killed in a “precise, intelligence-based strike” conducted by the Israeli Air Forces in the Beirut area.
According to the IDF statement, Husseini was pivotal in managing logistics within Hezbollah, overseeing budgeting and the management of various units within the organization. His role included facilitating weapon transfers from Iran to Hezbollah and distributing advanced weaponry among its units, ensuring effective transportation and allocation.
The headquarters that Husseini commanded also houses Hezbollah’s Research and Development Unit, responsible for manufacturing precision-guided missiles and managing the storage and transportation of weapons in Lebanon. The statement emphasized that he managed Hezbollah’s most sensitive projects, including the group’s war strategies and special operations against Israel from both Lebanon and Syria.
While Hezbollah has not immediately commented on the strike, they claimed responsibility for rocket fire targeting a military base near the headquarters of Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, Mossad, as reported by local media. This development follows a series of Israeli strikes in Lebanon, which have resulted in the deaths of several high-ranking Hezbollah commanders, including the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
Despite the losses, Hezbollah has stated that it has replaced its slain commanders and remains committed to fighting against Israel until a cease-fire is reached in Gaza. Last week, Israel initiated a limited ground incursion into southern Lebanon, heightening fears of escalating conflict amid the ongoing war with Hamas.
The war, which began after a Hamas-led terror attack in Israel on October 7, resulted in nearly 1,200 deaths and 250 abductions. In retaliation, Israel has pledged to eliminate Hamas in the Gaza Strip, reportedly resulting in around 42,000 fatalities and displacing approximately 90 percent of Gaza’s population.
The conflict has further spread to the region, with Israel attacking Hezbollah in Lebanon and facing tensions with Iran, which recently launched missiles into Israel. Efforts to broker a ceasefire, supported by the U.S., have repeatedly failed, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refuses to relent in Gaza, while Hamas demands an end to hostilities.
In a recorded message during a memorial service for the October 7 attacks, Netanyahu affirmed, “As long as our hostages are in Gaza, we will continue to fight. We will not give up on any of them. I won’t give up.”
