Arvind Kejriwal Unveils Sanjeevani Yojana for Senior Citizens

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has launched the Sanjeevani Yojana, aimed at providing free medical care for senior citizens aged 60 and above in Delhi. Registration for the scheme has already begun in the Jangpura assembly constituency, where AAP has fielded former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia for the upcoming elections.

Kejriwal announced that under the Sanjeevani Yojana, the Delhi government will cover the complete cost of medical treatment for senior citizens, whether they opt for government or private hospitals. With an estimated 20-25 lakh senior citizens in Delhi, the initiative seeks to significantly benefit the elderly population.

In addition, Kejriwal highlighted the success of the recently launched Mahila Samman Yojana, which provides a monthly allowance of ₹2,100 to women in Delhi. According to him, approximately 2.5 lakh women registered for the scheme within hours of its launch. He expressed optimism about the scheme’s transformative impact on households across the city.

Earlier, the AAP leader also introduced the Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship to support higher education for Dalit students. These announcements come as Delhi gears up for the 2025 Assembly elections.

The BJP has criticized these moves, labeling them as electoral tactics. BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla questioned AAP’s past performance, stating, “Despite 10 years in power, they failed to address issues like Delhi’s pollution and the Yamuna’s cleanliness. Promises of better schools and hospitals remain unfulfilled.”

In the last Assembly elections, AAP secured a landslide victory, winning 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP managed only eight. With these new schemes, AAP aims to consolidate its position ahead of the upcoming polls.
