Lungleiah DC Discusses Strategies for Economic Development under ODOP Initiative through Local Product Promotion

Lunglei : A meeting was held at the Lunglei DC Conference Hall today, chaired by District Commissioner Ms. Navneet Mann, to discuss strategies for implementing the One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative in Lunglei District. The focus was on identifying and promoting new products, particularly the locally significant “balhla,” to drive economic development.

Representatives from the DC office, various line departments—including Horticulture, Agriculture, Industries, Cooperation, DRDO, ITI, SIRD, NIC, and I&PR—along with three entrepreneurs engaged in processing local products, participated in the discussion.

The three entrepreneurs—Ms. Vanlalzami Ralte (Bawbawihi Food Processing), Mr. Pc. Lalngaihsanga (Pachuau Banana Chips), and Mr. F. Ramfangzauva (Rafa Pro Biotics Juice)—shared insights into their ventures. They showcased products made from balhla and other resources, including chips, flour, and juice, while explaining their production methods and strategies. Ms. Navneet Mann commended their efforts, expressed appreciation for their contributions, and encouraged them to continue advancing their initiatives.

The meeting also focused on identifying new products within the ODOP framework, improving the value chain for balhla, increasing the number of entrepreneurs using local resources, and devising strategies to address challenges in marketing, logistics, and awareness.

It was emphasized that for the successful promotion of Lunglei’s products, leveraging the internet and various media platforms would be essential. Additionally, participation in government-organized events and exhibitions could enhance exposure and demand for the district’s unique products. To encourage more entrepreneurs, initiatives such as providing financial assistance, training programs, and workshops will be implemented.
