90% Voter Turnout Target Set for Serchhip District

Serchhip : In the 2020 Village Council Elections, Serchhip District recorded an 80.6% voter turnout. This year, efforts will be made to achieve a 90% turnout, as announced by Serchhip District Election Officer (DEO) Pu Paul L. Khuma. A crucial meeting was held today at the DC Meeting Hall to discuss various preparatory measures.

Serchhip DC Pu Paul L. Khuma emphasized that high voter turnout is a sign of a strong democracy. He stated that while the DEO office alone cannot ensure higher participation, cooperation from community leaders and the public is vital.

To encourage voting, official appeal letters will be sent to households. Residents of Serchhip District, including those staying outside the district for education or other reasons, will be urged through social media campaigns to return home and cast their votes. The YMA, MHIP, and MJA will assist in spreading this message.

Additionally, MPF will provide support to elderly voters and those facing difficulties in reaching polling stations. The Government Serchhip College Electoral Literacy Club will set up help desks at three polling booths to assist voters with any queries.

Starting tomorrow, daily e-flyers with various slogans promoting voter participation will be circulated on social media. Sector Magistrates and VLOs will establish Intense Monitoring Teams in their respective areas, ensuring a fair election process. To encourage participation, a Best Voter Turnout Award will be introduced. At every polling station, Booth Ambassadors from Self-Help Groups will motivate citizens to vote with unity and responsibility.

Field Veng has been designated as a Queue-less Polling Station to facilitate a smoother voting process. Special voting schedules will be arranged to minimize waiting times. YMA members will also inform households ahead of Polling Day.

Today’s meeting was attended by Election Officer Pi F. Lalnisai, DIPRO Pi Lalnunmawii, and representatives from YMA, MHIP, MJA, and VLOs.
