Promotion of Tourism in Thadpathra with Exciting Activities
Tourists and Students Enjoy Jungle Trekking and Boating, Insightful Learning on Biodiversity
Raipur : In an effort to boost tourism in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district, the local administration has been making continuous efforts. As part of this initiative, a special tourism event was organized on Thursday at the renowned Thadpathra tourist site in Gaurela. The event included training sessions for the local tourism committee and the Banmanai Nature Camp, which saw enthusiastic participation from tourists and students alike.

A group of 40 students from Indira Gandhi Tribal University, Amarkantak, along with several tourists, took part in an adventurous jungle trekking experience. Lead trainer and environmentalist Sanjay Payasi guided visitors along the banks of the Amaravati Ganga River, introducing them to the region’s rich biodiversity. He provided insights into rare medicinal trees such as Dahiman, Kurkut, Arjun, Amaltas, Semal, and Sal. The highlight of the trekking expedition was the thrilling journey from Kamarapathra, located along the Amaravati River, to the historic Mai Ka Mandap.
Mai Ka Mandap is famous for its association with the legendary wedding of the Narmada River and is considered the world’s first wedding pavilion. Tourists were particularly fascinated by the ancient stone carvings depicting utensils used in the wedding feast. Visitors also enjoyed the serene waterfall at Mai Ka Mandap, immersing themselves in the historical and cultural significance of the site.
After trekking and enjoying the waterfall, visitors relished a traditional meal prepared by the local tourism committee, served on plates made of Mahul leaves. As evening approached, a campfire was organized by the lakeside near Thadpathra’s mud houses. Under the moonlit sky, tourists had an unforgettable experience with paddle boating.
Adding to the cultural charm, local Baiga women performed mesmerizing folk songs and dances, which drew enthusiastic participation from visitors. The event concluded with a storytelling session where attendees shared their experiences and deepened their understanding of the historical and cultural legacy of the site.
This initiative has paved the way for immense tourism potential in the Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district. The local administration’s efforts will not only enhance tourism but also create new employment opportunities in the region.
