State Government Responsible for the Care of Stray and Destitute Cattle: Chief Minister Dr. Yadav
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that the sacred city of Jabalipuram has been blessed today. It has become an abode of bliss. The foundation stone for an advanced Gaushala has been laid in the district. He emphasized that the state government is committed towards cow protection and conservation. As per the state’s policy, no cow shall be left abandoned or destitute. Like major metropolitan cities, large municipal corporations and municipalities across the state will also construct Gaushalas, increasing their capacity to shelter up to 10 Thousand cattle.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav announced that to economically empower the state’s farmers, the government has decided to procure wheat at a support price of Rs 2,600 per quintal. Additionally, paddy-producing farmers will receive an incentive of Rs 2,000 per hectare starting this month.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav addressed the gathering during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the first phase of a Gaushala project being developed on 53 acres in Umaria, Jabalpur. He also inaugurated and laid the foundation for development projects worth over Rs 187.43 crore in the district. The event commenced with Dr. Yadav lighting ceremonial lamp and garlanding the saints. He worshiped and paid homage to cows and offered them feed with deep reverence.
On this occasion, Public Works Minister Shri Rakesh Singh, Animal Husbandry Minister Shri Lakhan Singh Patel, and Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Shri Nagar Singh Chauhan were present.
Dr. Yadav stated that government-run Gaushalas will be established to care for destitute and elderly cattle. This initiative will provide shelter to stray and abandoned cows roaming the streets. He mentioned that the government is allocating Rs 40 per day for each cow in Gaushalas. Additionally, individuals who rear more than 10 cows will receive subsidies from the government. He emphasized that those who raise cattle are called “Gopal,” and a home with cows is termed “Gokul.”
Dr. Yadav highlighted that, according to Sanatan Dharma, 33 crore deities reside within cows. Mahatma Gandhi also advocated for recognizing cow as the national animal. The cow is the only mother who nourishes both her offspring and human children with her milk.
He further remarked that under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is progressing towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy. He pointed out that several countries gained independence alongside India but maintained a strong connection with their culture. In this context, he cited Israel’s patriotism as an example.
Dr. Yadav said that the state is working toward the welfare and development of the poor, youth, women, and farmers. He mentioned that the vision of former Prime Minister Late shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee—to interlink rivers and provide irrigation water to farmers—was being realized swiftly. Discussions are also underway to implement a similar project for the Tapti River in collaboration with Maharashtra. The state aims to increase the irrigated land area to 1 crore hectares to enhance farmers’ prosperity.
