Indian Railways Commissions Double Distant Signals.

Malda Division has announced the successful commissioning of double distant signals from Bonidanga to Gour Malda as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance rail infrastructure and improve train operations. This significant upgradation is a crucial step towards enabling trains to run at speeds of up to 130 kmph while ensuring enhanced safety, efficiency, and passenger convenience.

The Signal & Telecommunication (S&T) Department of Malda Division played the pivotal role in the successful implementation of this advanced signaling system capable of enhancing high-speed train operations by providing an additional pre-warning to locomotive pilots about upcoming signals. This advance alert system allows train operators to anticipate signal aspects well in advance, ensuring precise control over train speed and braking distances. As a result, the apprehension of sudden halts and emergency braking is minimised, significantly enhancing operational safety and efficiency.

With the planned increase in train speeds and haulage capacity for both passenger and goods trains, the existing signal spacing was found to require further enhancement. The introduction of double distant signals addresses this challenge by giving loco pilots additional time to react appropriately, ensuring safer and more efficient train movement. This upgrade not only facilitates high-speed travel but also aligns with our broader vision of modernising railway infrastructure for a better passenger experience.

The S&T Department, under the leadership of a team of dedicated railway engineers and technical experts, ensured the seamless execution of this project. Their expertise in signal planning, installation, and testing played a crucial role in achieving this milestone within the planned timeframe. The introduction of this advanced signaling technology reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to safety, innovation, and progress. By reducing signal-related uncertainties and enhancing situational awareness for train operators, the system contributes significantly to passenger safety and travel comfort. Additionally, it ensures seamless movement of freight trains, boosting economic growth by enabling faster and more reliable goods transportation.

Upgrading the signaling system is a pivotal step towards facilitating faster and safer train operations. As Indian Railways moves towards a future of high-speed express trains, Malda Division remains steadfast in its commitment to technological advancement and passenger safety.
