“Arunachal Police & Law Dept to Implement New Criminal Laws by July 1”

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Dharmendra has said that the Arunachal Police and the Law Department are dedicatedly working to implement the new Criminal Laws in the state by July 1, official sources said on Friday.

The Chief Secretary chaired a meeting of the State Level Steering Committee (SLSC) on the implementation of the New Criminal Laws (NCL) in Arunachal Pradesh at the Civil Secretariat on Thursday, according to their official social media post.

The new criminal laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023—already assented to by President Droupadi Murmu in December 2023, will replace the existing British-era criminal laws: Indian Penal Code, 1860, Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872, respectively.

The Chief Secretary further stated that the Action Taken Report (ATR) of the last SLSC meeting and its decisions were also reviewed.

Additionally, the status of the State Forensic Science Laboratory, Mobile Forensic Vans, creation of manpower, CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems), ICJS 2.0 (Inter-operable Criminal Justice System 2.0), officers’ training, and other matters were discussed in detail, he said.
