Yogi govt reaches over 90 million women through ‘Mission Shakti’
Lucknow : Dedicated to ensuring the safety, dignity, and self-reliance of women, the Yogi government’s “Mission Shakti” campaign has created history by reaching over 90 million women. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, this massive campaign has not only strengthened the state’s social fabric, but has also brought about positive changes in administrative functioning. The coordination among various departments has been key to reaching this remarkable milestone.
Launched on October 17, 2020, Mission Shakti has successfully completed five impactful phases. It has seen the active participation of the Department of Women and Child Development, the Home Department, the Health Department, and 28 other government departments. The involvement of social organizations and educational institutions has transformed this campaign into a mass movement.
Under Mission Shakti, awareness campaigns were conducted across villages, schools, colleges, municipal councils, and urban wards through special camps and events. These initiatives aimed to raise awareness about women’s safety, their rights, and child protection laws.
Key services like the Women Helpline 1090, the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana, One Stop Centers, and Child Protection Units have been brought closer to the public. Departments such as Police, Transport, Education, Health, and Panchayati Raj organized specialized workshops and training sessions covering a wide range of topics, from safety to self-reliance. Key areas such as cybercrime, domestic violence, mental health, and legal aid were addressed in-depth.
The campaign made a concerted effort to reach socially marginalized, remote, and underprivileged communities. Leveraging digital media, social platforms, radio programs, street plays, posters, banners, and public dialogue, Mission Shakti ensured its message reached every corner of the state.
To reach 90 million women, the Yogi government organized a wide range of programs across the state. Several schemes and initiatives under Mission Shakti brought transformative changes in women’s welfare. More than 1,707 potential child marriages were prevented. The women’s helpline provided assistance to 7.78 lakh women. One Stop Centers supported victims in 2.10 lakh cases.
Under the ambitious Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana, over 23.40 lakh eligible girls were benefitted. The 1090 call center was upgraded with 80 new terminals, and 100 pink police booths were established. In cases of crimes against women and minors, 27,425 cases were prosecuted, including 11,254 under the POCSO Act and more than 3,700 dowry death cases, ensuring punishment for the culprits.
Over 1,100 pink toilets were built for women in 189 municipalities. In the eight aspirational districts of the state, over 2 lakh girls were identified and supported for holistic development. Additionally, the state achieved over 84 percent institutional deliveries. Uttar Pradesh has achieved significant success across various women welfare schemes.
