India and Pakistan Agree to Ceasefire After U.S. Mediation
In a major breakthrough, India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire following rising tensions along their borders. The announcement came from the United States, which played a key role in brokering the deal.
U.S. President Donald Trump shared the news on his platform, Truth Social. He stated, “I am pleased to announce that after long and intense discussions, India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire, thanks to U.S. mediation. Congratulations to both countries for showing wisdom and good judgment.”
Shortly after, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the ceasefire agreement. “Pakistan has always stood for peace and security in the region while safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Dar said in a statement on social media.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also commented on the development. He said that he and Senator J.D. Vance had spoken with senior leaders from both nations, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. According to Rubio, the two sides not only agreed to halt military actions but also to begin discussions on a broader set of issues at a neutral location.
“We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif for choosing the path of peace through wisdom and statesmanship,” Rubio posted on X.
Although the U.S. has publicly announced the ceasefire, official confirmations from the Indian and Pakistani governments are still awaited. Diplomats hope this step could open the door for more stable relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
The ceasefire is expected to take effect immediately, covering all military actions on land, air, and sea.
