Under the Leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Welfare Schemes Are Being Successfully Implemented on the Ground
Mobile Veterinary Unit Becomes a Ray of Hope in Remote Forest Areas of Kondagaon
MVU Proves a Blessing for Livestock Farmers, Providing Timely Treatment and Guidance
Raipur : Kondagaon is a tribal-dominated district where people primarily depend on agriculture and small-scale animal husbandry for their livelihood. For many families, rearing livestock is a vital source of income. However, most livestock farmers practice traditional animal husbandry with limited resources. As a result, when serious illness strikes their animals, they are often unable to seek timely and proper treatment due to a lack of information and facilities—leading to the death of animals and financial losses.
This scenario is now changing under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. The welfare schemes of the Central and State Governments are being successfully implemented on the ground.
The state government is formulating and delivering development programs for all sections of society, with special emphasis on farmers and livestock rearers. One such impactful initiative is the Mobile Veterinary Unit (MVU), which has become a new ray of hope in the remote forest regions of Kondagaon. Where timely treatment was once unimaginable, today veterinary care is reaching the doorsteps of livestock farmers.
The MVU operates under the LHDCP scheme and functions regularly across all development blocks in the district. Since its launch on September 14, 2023, the service has made a visible impact—not just in statistics but in the smiles and trust of the people.
In the year 2024–25 so far, the MVU service has reached 4,643 villages in the district. It has treated 56,210 animals and birds, distributed free medicines to 56,410 livestock farmers, performed artificial insemination on 578 cows, sterilized 3,150 unproductive bulls, examined 23,002 animals, and vaccinated 135,586 animals and birds to protect them from diseases.
Under the direction of the Animal Husbandry Department, the MVU reaches three villages daily—not only providing treatment but also sharing important information and advice with farmers. The mobile veterinary unit brings more than just medical care; it brings trust and self-reliance. Now, even in the deep forests of the district, there is no delay in treatment or shortage of medicines. This vehicle has not only healed animals but also brought a new direction to the lives of livestock owners.
For instance, in the village of Padnar, a buffalo owned by livestock farmer Mr. Pohdo was unable to deliver due to the calf dying in the womb. As the situation grew critical, Mr. Pohdo immediately informed the Mobile Veterinary Unit. The MVU team, which provides doorstep veterinary services, swiftly reached the location. Thanks to the alertness and experience of the doctors and staff, the dead calf was safely removed, saving the buffalo’s life. Today, the buffalo is fully recovered, and Mr. Pohdo has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the government and the MVU team for their support.
In another case, livestock farmer Mr. Rakesh Mahelwar from the village of Lanjoda reported that his bull had been injured in a road accident, resulting in a broken leg. As no veterinarian was available at the Farsagaon block at the time, the MVU team from Kondagaon promptly responded and conducted surgery on-site. Thanks to timely intervention, the bull’s life was saved, and it has now fully recovered. Mr. Mahelwar has extended his appreciation to the MVU team and the administration for their swift and compassionate service.
