Ahilyadevi Holkar’s Legacy is Invaluable: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Launch of the Coffee Table Book ‘Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar – An Eternal Flame’

Mumbai – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hailed the legacy of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar, emphasizing that she governed through welfare-oriented rule and carried out the restoration of temples and construction of ghats across the country. He stated that the state government would take up the conservation of the wells and reservoirs she built, adding that her contributions are truly invaluable.

He was speaking at the launch event of the coffee table book “Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar – An Eternal Flame”, produced by the Social Studies Foundation, commemorating the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyadevi Holkar. Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi, Maharashtra’s Minister for Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister for Cultural Affairs and IT Adv. Ashish Shelar, former Bombay High Court Justice and current MAT Chairperson Mridula Bhatkar, poet Prasoon Joshi, and the book’s editors Ambrish Mishra, Satyaprakash Mishra, and Avinash Mule were also present.

Chief Minister Fadnavis shared that on the occasion of Ahilyadevi Holkar’s 300th birth anniversary, a Cabinet meeting was held in her birthplace, Chondi, where plans were approved for the renovation of major Jyotirlingas and religious sites like Pandharpur. He announced that Ahmednagar district has been renamed as Ahilyanagar and that a high-quality commercial film on her life and achievements is in the works to inspire future generations.

Fadnavis further stressed the importance of making Ahilyadevi’s story accessible to the common people. While some may know parts of her life, this coffee table book offers a multidimensional portrayal of her journey. He described the book as more than a publication—it is a cultural treasure that captures her essence.

Union Minister Annapurna Devi highlighted Ahilyadevi’s pivotal role in the redevelopment of sacred sites like Kashi, Ayodhya, and Somnath. She noted that “An Eternal Flame” showcases Holkar’s leadership qualities and continues to inspire society. Referred to in history as a “progressive queen,” this book offers valuable insights into her governance and vision, she added.
