Warkaris to Receive Insurance Coverage – Deputy CM Eknath Shinde

Medical Facilities to Continue This Year as Well; Toll Waiver for Pilgrimage Vehicles

Mumbai : To ensure the safety of pilgrims participating in the annual Ashadhi Wari, a group insurance scheme will be implemented for Warkaris, and as in previous years, medical facilities will also be provided this year, announced Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

He was addressing the media after a special review meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The meeting focused on preparations for the Ashadhi Wari and addressing challenges faced by Warkaris.

In light of the recent heavy rains, the Deputy CM directed that any damaged stretches along the pilgrimage route be immediately repaired using gravel, stone, and asphalt. He also stated that Warkaris should be ensured sufficient water supply, power connections, and waterproof tents at the Palkhi resting points. Furthermore, vehicles participating in the Wari will continue to receive toll exemptions as in previous years.

Health Services and Ambulance Support

Similar to last year, large-scale health camps will be organized by the state’s health department. Facilities such as cardiac ambulances will be made available for Warkaris, and temporary ICU units will be set up in Pandharpur. Deputy CM Shinde instructed Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Prakash Abitkar to personally visit Pandharpur and oversee these arrangements. He also emphasized that fully-equipped ambulances should be provided throughout the Wari period for larger pilgrim groups (dindis) departing from each district.

Appointment of Nodal Officers

The Deputy CM further announced that the state government would offer assistance to the families of Warkaris who lost their lives in accidents during last year’s Wari. To ensure smooth coordination with the police, a nodal officer will be appointed. Efforts will also be made to minimize delays along the route so that traditional rituals, meals, and cultural practices are not disrupted.

Deputy CM Shinde stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring that this year’s Wari is conducted as a “Clean Wari, Pure Wari, and Green Wari,” promising full support to achieve these goals.
