Water Conservation Activities Conducted in 413 Urban Bodies of State

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, various activities for water conservation have been continuously conducted since 30 March in 413 urban bodies through collective public participation in the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan the state. In this work, public representatives also actively participated. In urban bodies, the work of protecting and rejuvenating water sources, developing sensitivity among the general public towards water conservation and storage, developing permanent water structures through collective participation, and the restoration of rivers, ponds, wells, stepwells, and traditional water sources was carried out prominently.

In urban areas situated along the Narmada River, priority was given to the repair and cleaning of ghats. More than 3,300 water sources in urban bodies were rejuvenated. Cleaning of 2,200 drains and development of their reflow capacity was carried out. 4,000 rainwater harvesting structures were prepared in the state. In major cities of the state, 32 Amrit Jal (elixir water) structures and 38 green area works were completed. Urban body employees tested water quality in urban areas on physical, chemical, and biological standards. In view of the summer season, arrangements for 2,700 public drinking water points and water centers were made in urban areas since the campaign started in March 2025. Public participation remained the soul of this entire campaign.

More than 70,000 citizens participated in the campaign. 341 Kalash Yatras (sacred water pot processions) were taken out through the main roads of the city. In these, women’s participation was prominent. 1,000 water heroes and water friends associated with the campaign were registered on the My Bharat Portal. To strengthen the feeling of water saving, cleanliness around drinking water sources, and a clean environment among children and youth, rangoli, painting, and essay competitions were held. A widespread plantation drive was also initiated in urban areas. A plan for controlling carbon emissions through tree plantation for environmental protection in urban areas has also been prepared. In Ward-12 of Municipal Council Katangi, Jabalpur, a cleaning campaign was conducted in a 100-year-old stepwell. In Kanadia, Indore, the restoration work of the 300-year-old historic Mata Ahilya stepwell was carried out through public participation. Cleaning and beautification work of the Haathi Bawdi in Bagli of Dewas district was done. In Municipal Council Bijaawar, the stepwell was restored and given a new form. In Ratlam, the stepwell located in front of Mahalakshmi Temple was cleaned with citizens’ participation. In Ghuwara of Chhatarpur, the dilapidated stepwell was beautified and given a new form.

Oath administered to people

Citizens involved in the campaign in urban areas were administered an oath to continue to maintain cleanliness near drinking water sources, to do plantation near such sources, and to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness and protecting gardens in urban areas. Participation of self-help groups is also being ensured in the maintenance of gardens.
