Fortified rice is rich in nutrients
Distributed to Antyodaya, Priority, Destitute and Disabled Ration Card holders
Raipur : Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, ration is being distributed to eligible beneficiaries through fair price shops of the state. On the instructions of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, free rice will be distributed for the next 5 years. Fortified rice containing nutrients (iron, folic acid, vitamin B-12) is very beneficial for people to overcome anemia and other nutritional deficiencies among beneficiaries. Beneficiaries of Antyodaya and priority ration card holder families, Mid Day Meal Scheme and Supplementary Nutrition Diet Scheme are being benefited.
The Food Department informed that the food grain eligibility of priority ration cards of the state has been fixed at 10 kg for a 1 member family, 20 kg food grains for a 2 member family, 35 kg for a 3 to 5 member family and 7 kg rice per member per month at Rs 1 per kg for a family with more than 5 members. Antyodaya ration card holders are given 35 kg rice per month. Around 67 lakh 72 thousand beneficiaries are being benefited under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana in the state.
Under the Fortified Rice Distribution Scheme, fortified rice distribution scheme has been implemented in the country to ensure nutritional security along with food security to the beneficiaries of PDS. Through this scheme, distribution is being done to overcome anemia and other nutritional deficiencies among the beneficiaries of PDS Mid Day Meal Scheme and Supplementary Nutrition Scheme. Fortified rice is being distributed to Antyodaya, Priority, Destitute and Disabled ration card holders under the Public Distribution System in all the districts of the state.
