Immediate Implementation of Shri Kshetra Bhimashankar Development Plan Ordered – CM Devendra Fadnavis

₹288.17 Crore Plan Approved for Bhimashankar Ahead of 2027 Kumbh Mela

Mumbai : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that the ₹288.17 crore Shri Kshetra Bhimashankar Development Plan be implemented immediately, ensuring comprehensive and high-quality infrastructure development at the site before the 2027 Kumbh Mela.

The announcement was made during a meeting held at the Sahyadri Guest House to review the Bhimashankar development plan, focusing on crowd management and amenities required for the Kumbh Mela. The plan was formally approved during this session. The meeting was attended by Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar and MLA Dilip Walse Patil, among other senior officials.

CM Fadnavis stated that Bhimashankar attracts a large number of devotees and tourists, and the development must center around their needs. He instructed that a time-bound implementation schedule be prepared to ensure all development activities are completed before the Kumbh Mela.

Emphasizing the ecological significance of the Bhimashankar region, the Chief Minister said an eco-tourism concept must be developed on a large scale, leveraging the area’s natural forest wealth. Proposals include establishing forest trekking paths, introducing a ropeway system for easier access for pilgrims and tourists, and developing visitor amenities such as hotels, restaurants, and accommodation facilities in Nigdaale.

He also directed officials to prioritize the development of transport and road infrastructure, including internal roads, and plan for a helipad to enhance accessibility. Provisions should be made to relocate and upgrade local shopkeepers and businesses by providing new commercial spaces.

The Chief Minister emphasized upgrading the Rajgurunagar–Talegh–Bhimashankar Highway for smoother vehicular traffic. He also called for strict crowd management and security arrangements, including the establishment of an additional police outpost and the creation of a power substation to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.

During the meeting, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi presented a detailed overview of the planned development works. The meeting was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department O.P. Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of the Planning Department Rajgopal Deora, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Ashwini Bhide, Secretary Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi, and heads of other relevant departments.

The comprehensive plan aims to transform Bhimashankar into a well-equipped pilgrimage and eco-tourism destination before the influx of visitors expected during the 2027 Kumbh Mela.
