Major Success for Jaipur Discom – Jhalawar, Dausa, and JPDCL North Circles Declared Zero Defective Meter Zones
Principal Secretary (Energy) Presents Certificates; Plan to Replace Defective Meters Across All Circles
Jaipur : Three circles under Jaipur Discom have achieved a major milestone by replacing 100% of defective meters. The Dausa, JPDCL North, and Jhalawar circles have replaced all faulty meters in their respective sub-divisions as of July 1, 2025. Recognizing this achievement, Principal Secretary (Energy) Mr. Ajitabh Sharma presented certificates of appreciation at Vidyut Bhawan on Thursday, officially declaring them “Zero Defective Meter Circles.”
Congratulating the engineers of all three circles, Mr. Sharma lauded their efforts and instructed that similar initiatives be undertaken across the remaining Jaipur Discom circles, as well as in Jodhpur and Ajmer Electricity Distribution Corporations. He also directed the Discom Chairperson to organize a meeting with the Managing Directors of the respective distribution companies to draft an action plan for eliminating defective meters across all circles.
Why Eliminating Defective Meters Matters:
Defective meters negatively impact revenue collection for Discoms. If a meter remains faulty for over two months, the corporation is obliged to provide a 5% rebate on electricity charges to the consumer. Furthermore, billing during this period is done on an average consumption basis, which often leads to:
- Increased customer complaints when actual usage is lower than the average.
- Financial loss for the utility if the real usage is higher.
- Difficulty in assessing feeder-level or sub-division distribution losses due to lack of actual consumption data.
Chairperson’s Directives Showing Results:
Discom Chairperson Ms. Arti Dogra, in previous review meetings, had stressed the urgent need to clear the backlog of defective meters in all circles. Expressing concern over revenue losses, she had directed that no defective meter case should remain unresolved for more than two months. The collective efforts of officials have yielded visible results, particularly in these three circles.
Meter Replacement Figures:
- Dausa Circle: Replaced 9,139 defective meters between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025.
- JPDCL North Circle: Replaced 17,885 defective meters between January 1 and June 30, 2025.
- Jhalawar Circle: Replaced 1,585 meters in various categories during the same January–June 2025 period.
Certificates were received by:
- Mr. K.L. Barodiya, Executive Engineer, Jhalawar Circle
- Mr. Rajesh Gupta, Superintendent Engineer, JPDCL North
- Mr. M.L. Meena, Superintendent Engineer, Dausa Circle
Their success marks a significant step toward improving operational efficiency and consumer trust in Rajasthan’s power distribution system.
