Government Positive on Rehabilitation of Slum Dwellers in Asud Village – Minister of State Madhuri Misal
Mumbai : A policy decision will be taken urgently regarding the rehabilitation of citizens evicted from the slums in the Asud village area under Panvel Municipal Corporation. Until then, all essential services must be immediately provided to the affected citizens, directed Minister of State for Urban Development, Transport, Social Justice, Medical Education, Minority Development, and Waqf, Madhuri Misal.
After the eviction of slum settlements in the Asud village area of Panvel, several citizens became homeless and began an indefinite hunger strike at Azad Maidan in Mumbai to press their demands. Taking cognizance of the protest, Minister of State Madhuri Misal visited the protest site and accepted the memorandum from the agitators. She assured the protestors of prompt action.
Representatives of the Rashtriya Bahujan Adhikar Sanghatana—Mr. Rakesh Mohite, Dr. Yogendra Vitthal Kolte, Rajkumar Dinesh Nat—as well as many slum dwellers from Asud village were present on the occasion. Following the positive intervention by Minister Misal, the protestors announced the withdrawal of their hunger strike.
