Cancer Screening Campaign for Women to Be Launched in Municipal Hospitals Across the State

Mumbai : Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed that the construction work of Thane District Hospital be expedited and completed at the earliest to start providing services to citizens. He stated that this hospital will prove to be a boon for citizens of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Along with installing modern equipment, the process to recruit 1,078 new posts should also begin immediately. Additionally, the Deputy CM instructed that a cancer screening campaign for women be undertaken in municipal hospitals across the state as a preventive measure.

The instructions were given during a review meeting chaired by Deputy CM Shinde in the committee hall at Mantralaya regarding the construction of Thane District General Hospital. Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Prakash Abitkar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Deputy CM Aseem Gupta, Principal Secretary Navin Sona, Health Secretaries Nipun Vinayak and Virendra Singh, Finance Secretary A. Shaila, Health Commissioner Kadambari Balkawade, Thane District Collector Ashok Shingare, Health Directors, Deputy Directors, and District Surgeon Dr. Kailash Pawar were present.

The upgraded Thane District Hospital will have a total of 900 beds, including a 500-bed district hospital, a 200-bed women’s hospital, and a 200-bed referral hospital. About 80 percent of the construction work is already complete, and work on electrification and installation of medical equipment is underway. The hospital’s construction is expected to be fully completed by the end of December, and around 1,078 new posts will be created for this 900-bed facility.

Deputy CM Shinde emphasized that modern medical equipment must be installed alongside the completion of the construction work. He directed Principal Secretary Sona to hold review meetings every Tuesday at Mantralaya to track the progress of the hospital. This district hospital will benefit not only the residents of Thane district but also citizens from Raigad, Navi Mumbai, and Palghar, he added.

Meanwhile, the Deputy CM also directed that a health screening campaign for women be launched in municipal hospitals across the state. He highlighted the need for increased awareness about breast cancer and cervical cancer among women and emphasized prevention over treatment. He also instructed the Health Minister and secretaries to conduct surprise inspections at health centers across the state to review the availability of medicines, equipment, and overall functioning.
