ENERZAL Mumbai Ultra Marathon, 2025 – The 12 Hour Run.

The ENERZAL Mumbai Ultra Marathon, a unique 100% charity event to raise fund for the Pediatric Cancer patients under treatment at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai is being scheduled on 15th. August, 2025.

As the Mumbai Ultra Marathon is just some hours away from creating another history in a ‘movement for humanity’; the participating marathoners are engaged in a dawn – dusk – dawn rigorous training, along side apprising the fellow runners about the time line achievements; Maverick News – the official Media Partner had delved into a broader study encompassing the Marathon and its Marathoners.

While interacting with the marathoners for the last couple of weeks, the correspondent often asked himself – “Do a Marathoner only Run”? As it was obvious, that a Runner since pursuing the religion of running, traverse distances beyond the imaginary limits – whether within the country or abroad.  Most of the runners, while speaking with Team Maverick, had exemplified the best of humanity, along with aversion to immobility which culminated to their passion for brisk walking – jogging – running – long distance haul – eventually marathoning.

However, the question still kept pinning, unless a further insight had unlocked the flummox. A Marathoner not only and always runs; he is the ambassador of ‘enlightened health’. An epitome of holistic approach to well-being that encompasses both physical and mental / spiritual aspects, emphasizing self-awareness, personal growth, and a connection to something larger than oneself. It’s not just about the absence of disease, but about achieving a state of optimal health and vitality through conscious choices and practices.

The growth path is not a seamless one, an athlete often encounters levels of injuries & traumas. At some point or another, most of all have experienced the acute, uncomfortable pain that is ‘muscle cramp’. Whether it’s during a run or – arguably worse – when trying to get some post-run rest in bed, cramp can come on instantly and unexpectedly and, although it is often harmless, can give the sensation that the ailing muscle is splitting in two. But muscle cramps needn’t be inevitable, nor does it cramp ones running style. Muscle cramp is a common complaint among most amateur and professional athletes alike, but ‘especially those involved in endurance sport or competition’ – and it usually marked by involuntary, smarting spasms that can occur in any muscle, although it is most frequently experienced in the calf and foot.

Factors like dehydration and electrolyte imbalances have been claimed to trigger muscle cramp, as well as muscle fatigue and tightness. With that in mind, if anyone tends to sweat a lot, or are running in hot weather, they will be sweating more than usual and losing more water and electrolytes in the process, which will increase the risk of experiencing muscle cramp. For athletes, cramps aren’t usually a sign of poor conditioning, but rather the result of overworked muscles and dehydration. For most people, cramps may occur if exercising longer or harder than usual. That’s why it’s important to gradually build endurance, stay hydrated and know how to prevent and ease muscle spasms.

While muscle cramps can be largely avoided by stretching, maintaining a balanced diet and staying hydrated, especially for those who sweat a lot. But even after doing everything right, it can still be difficult to escape cramping, and that’s when foods with a high magnesium, potassium, or sodium content can be of magnitudal help. Sports experts have also found that the consumption of acetic acid, which is often used as a preservative and flavour enhancer found, in vinegar, pickled foods and dressings, to be an effective way of preventing and relieving muscle cramp. Specifically, acetic acid ingestion allows athletes to potentially practice, compete or perform for extensive periods without experiencing a diminution in their physical capacity.

What needs to be learnt from a Runner? – Recent World Health Organisations reports have indexed that a person with lesser physical activities is prone to heart ailments and the impact well marks its presence at least 12-15 years before the onset of the disease. The reports have also demonstrated that Black male participants had a more continuous decline in physical activity from young adulthood to middle age, and Black female participants consistently reported the lowest physical activity throughout adulthood, highlighting disparity, both of them having pertinence to genetics.

Lifelong physical activity is essential for maintaining function, preventing disability, and reducing the risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. However, staying active over time can be difficult, especially during life transitions or after health events, periods when people are most vulnerable to decline. Every cloud has a silver lining; the conversations had with different runners have showcased many of their exemplary achievements in counterfeiting the jinx those which could have swayed the trajectories.
