Authorities Must Remain Extra Vigilant in View of Heavy Rainfall and Floods – Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan
Mumbai, Aug 2025 : The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall, and in view of the ongoing torrential rains across the state, Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan today visited the State Emergency Control Room at Mantralaya to review the situation.
Minister Mahajan took detailed information on the situation in Mumbai city and surrounding areas. He contacted Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani to understand the situation in Mumbai. He also directly spoke with the Collectors of Nanded and Raigad districts regarding the situation there and instructed government agencies to remain extra vigilant.
Mahajan directed officials that all agencies must act efficiently to control disaster situations arising from the rains in time, move citizens to safer locations, and ensure prompt relief and rescue operations.
He further instructed the Disaster Management Department to send timely alert messages to citizens, to continuously monitor the water levels of rivers and take necessary decisions, and to coordinate with local administrations to ensure immediate relief reaches flood-affected areas.
During the review, Additional Chief Secretary of the Relief and Rehabilitation & Disaster Management Department, Sonia Sethi, and Director of the State Emergency Operations Centre, Dr. Bhalchandra Chavan, briefed Minister Mahajan about the situation caused by the ongoing heavy rainfall across the state.
