Atishi Alleges Political Motive Behind ED Raid on Saurabh Bhardwaj

New Delhi, Aug 2025 : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, launched a sharp attack on the Modi government and the BJP over the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid at Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj’s residence.

She alleged that the raid was a deliberate attempt to divert public attention from the controversy surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s alleged “fake degree.”

“At the time of the case being cited (related to construction of 24 hospitals in Delhi in 2018–19), Saurabh Bhardwaj was not even a minister. This entire case is fabricated,” Atishi said during a press conference at the AAP headquarters on Tuesday.

Atishi further questioned Delhi University (DU), stating:

  • “When an RTI activist asked for Modi ji’s degree, DU refused to show it and instead went to the High Court. What kind of university is this, which does not take pride in the fact that the country’s Prime Minister is its former student?”
  • Drawing comparisons, she said, “When Rekha Gupta became Chief Minister, DU honored her. When I became Chief Minister, both St. Stephen’s College and Oxford University proudly recognized me. Why then does Delhi University want to hide Modi ji’s degree?”

The AAP leader alleged that just as in the case of senior leader Satyendar Jain, who spent years in jail before investigative agencies had to file closure reports due to lack of evidence, the raid on Bhardwaj too was baseless.

“BJP’s every conspiracy has failed in the past and will fail again. AAP has never indulged in even a single rupee of corruption,” she asserted.

Atishi also mocked the timing of the raid, asking: “If raids can be conducted on Saurabh Bhardwaj when he was not even a minister, will Modi ji also face raids for scams like 2G, Coalgate, CWG, or CNG Fitness Scam that happened during the Congress era?”

She reiterated that the ED raid was nothing more than a political ploy to silence AAP and distract the nation from Modi’s degree row.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Atishi posted:
“Why was there a raid at Saurabh ji’s residence today? Because across the country, questions are being raised on Modi ji’s degree — is it fake? This raid is just a diversion. The case itself is false, as Saurabh ji was not a minister at the time.”
