CM Devendra Fadnavis Inaugurates Pedestrian Bridge of Pune Metro
Pune, Sept 2025 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the pedestrian bridge connecting Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan Metro Station with Shaniwar Peth. The bridge, noted for its unique and exemplary design, stands as a fine example of modern architecture. With this facility, citizens of the Peth area will now have improved access to Pune Metro, said Chief Minister Fadnavis during the ceremony.

Union Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council Dr. Neelam Gorhe, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, MLAs Hemant Rasane, Sunil Kamble, Siddharth Shirole, and Managing Director of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Shravan Hardikar were present at the event.
As part of Phase 1 of the Pune Metro project, two bridges were planned to link Deccan Gymkhana and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan to the Peth areas along the Vanaz–Ramwadi route. Of these, construction of the pedestrian bridge from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan to Shaniwar Peth has been completed. This bridge will greatly ease access for residents of Shaniwar Peth, Narayan Peth, and nearby localities to the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan Metro Station across the Mutha River.
The bridge features India’s first 70-degree inclined concrete pylon. To support the structure, 20 high-tensile cables have been installed. The total length of the bridge is 179.791 meters, with a width of 8 meters. The design employs advanced cable-stayed bridge technology, making it both functional and visually striking.
Importantly, only two piers have been constructed within the riverbed, ensuring that the natural flow of the Mutha River remains uninterrupted. Given its proximity to the iconic Balgandharva Rangmandir, the bridge has been designed in the form of a tanpura (a traditional Indian string instrument), reflecting Pune’s rich cultural heritage. The structure thus embodies a harmonious blend of engineering precision and artistic inspiration.
