Eastern Railways urges larger section of the society in refraining from flying kites near railway tracks.

Sept 2025 : It has been observed that incidents of kite flying in the vicinity of 25KV electrified OHE of Railway are causing severe operational & safety concerns. Such activities pose the following risks: –

1. Tripping of OHE leading to disruption of train operation and consequent punctuality loss & harassment to lots of passengers due to such unnecessary detention of trains.

• Serious safety hazards including the risk of fatal electrocution due to accidental contact of live wire. The reason is scientific, as the threat of conductance of electricity through the “Chinese Manja” looms.

• Thread of kites entangled with the high overhead may not only be prove fatal for the kite flyer but at the same time other people who may accidentally touch such thread especially in moist weather will get electrocuted.

All, who had a fancy for kite flying, are requested to fly their kites at a considerable safe distance from the electrified Railway line and also put checks on the teenagers so that even by mistake anybody could not fly their kites in the area adjacent to Railway overhead line.

Eastern Railway seeking ardent cooperation from all sections of people in this respect of restricting kite flying near Railway overhead line, which will not only facilitate seamless movement of train services but at the same time will safeguard the lives of kite flyers.
