Mission Shakti 5.0: Girls visit govt hospitals, learn nuances of healthcare safety
Lucknow, Sept 2025 : As part of Mission Shakti 5.0, the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Department organized a special health awareness program for girls in all primary, upper primary, composite schools, and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs). Under this initiative, 1,21,103 students visited community health centres and district hospitals.

The program aimed to give students direct exposure to government health services. By visiting OPDs, pharmacies, vaccination rooms, and pathology labs, the girls gained practical knowledge of medical procedures and how health services function.
Significantly, Mission Shakti 5.0, inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on September 20, played a pivotal role in driving this initiative. Since then, under the leadership of Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh, the campaign has remained active and impactful, offering girls first-hand experience through a range of activities focused on health, safety, and empowerment.

During the visit, the students were guided to the registration counter to obtain the OPD slips, learning the first step in accessing government health services. They then met specialist doctors individually to seek advice on general health concerns. This experience not only enhanced their health awareness but also strengthened their communication skills and confidence.
During the visit, the girls were briefed on the procedures and significance of various tests, including blood pressure, haemoglobin, and blood sugar. At several centres, they were also shown live demonstrations of these tests. In addition, doctors and health workers provided key guidance on personal hygiene, nutrition, anaemia prevention, and precautions during epidemics.
Through this program, the girls were not only educated but also moved towards health and self-reliance. The students developed greater trust in the government health system and understood that only with the right information and direct experience can the full benefit of health services be taken. Moreover, this phase of Mission Shakti became the foundation for strengthening the pillars of girls’ safety, health, and empowerment, which in turn forms the strong base of society and the nation.
Monica Rani, Director General, School Education, Uttar Pradesh said, “Mission Shakti 5.0 provided girls with firsthand experience of government health services, inspiring them to become healthy, aware, and self-reliant. This initiative not only enhances their confidence and self-respect but also lays the foundation for empowered women in society.”
