Effective Measures Being Taken to Restore the Glory of the Yamuna: CM Rekha Gupta
New Delhi, Oct 2025 : Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today inspected the Chhath Puja Ghat of the Pochanpur Chhath Puja Committee located in Dwarka Sector-23B. She reviewed the ongoing preparations at the ghat and provided officials with the necessary directives. The Chief Minister emphasised that devotees must not face any inconvenience during the Chhath festival.
The event was attended by local MLA Sandeep Sahrawat, members of the Chhath Puja Committee, and several dignitaries. The Chief Minister noted that the Delhi Government’s preparations for Chhath Mahaparv have now entered their final stage. Seventeen model Chhath Ghats are being constructed along the Yamuna riverbank, while across the city, the government is ensuring essential facilities including tents, electricity, sanitation, toilets, security, and drinking water at over 1,000 Chhath Puja sites organised by local committees. She added that the model ghats along the Yamuna will provide an unprecedentedly grand and divine spectacle for this year’s celebrations. By combining devotion with convenience, the entire city of Delhi is set to appear truly “Chhathmaye.” This marks the first time the festival is being organised on such a large scale by the government in Delhi.
Local residents and members of the Chhath Puja Committee warmly welcomed and honoured the Chief Minister, expressing their gratitude for the Delhi Government’s efforts in organising the festival. The Chief Minister engaged in cordial discussions with the citizens, carefully noting their suggestions and requirements. She highlighted that Chhath Mahaparv is not only a celebration of faith but also a symbol of social unity and cooperation. The government’s goal is to ensure that every devotee experiences a clean, safe, and dignified environment.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister personally participated in painting and decorating the ghat, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and inspiration among the local community. She remarked that when elected representatives and citizens collaborate in preparing for an event, it becomes not just a festival but a celebration of cultural unity and participation.
The Chief Minister also stated that efforts to clean the Yamuna have been carried out at a war-footing level for the past eight months. The government is committed to making the Yamuna clean and free-flowing, a continuous process that will remain in place until the river is fully restored. She noted that visible results of these efforts are now emerging. The Yamuna cleaning campaign is being supported collaboratively by the Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh governments, along with the central government. CM Rekha Gupta expressed her special gratitude to Honourable Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that the cooperation received at all levels has strengthened the initiative to clean the Yamuna.
