A Glimpse of Good Governance in the Paddy Procurement System
Government’s Efficient Arrangements Bring a Smile to Woman Farmer Chaiti Bai
Raipur, Nov 2025 : With the commencement of paddy procurement for the Kharif marketing year 2025–26, a sense of satisfaction and confidence is clearly visible among the farmers of the state. One such example is Chaiti Bai Sahu, a woman farmer from Sambalpur village in Dhamtari district. Thanks to the state government’s sensitive and farmer-friendly policies, Chaiti Bai walked out of the procurement centre with a confident smile after selling her paddy with ease.
For years, the responsibility of selling paddy had been handled by her husband, but due to his health issues, Chaiti Bai herself brought 57 quintals of paddy to the procurement centre this year. Even though she was taking on such a major responsibility for the first time, she trusted the Chhattisgarh government’s good governance and arrangements, confident that she would not face any difficulty. She shared that all necessary facilities—gunny bags, labourers, digital weighing machines, drinking water, toilets, electricity, and trained operators—were available at the centre, ensuring that the entire process of selling paddy was smooth and transparent.
Chaiti Bai plans to use the money received from selling her paddy for her husband’s medical treatment. Expressing gratitude for the farmer-friendly policies implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, she said that the provision of ₹3,100 per quintal and procurement of 21 quintals per acre has proved extremely beneficial for farmers. This has not only made farming more profitable but has also strengthened the economic condition of many families like hers.
She added that the transparent system of paddy procurement and the assured price of ₹3,100 per quintal have brought financial stability to her household. She also praised the efficiency of the centre’s staff, labourers, and administrative teams, who made the entire process convenient and farmer-friendly. Chaiti Bai’s experience illustrates that when government policies are implemented on the ground with sensitivity and good governance, their benefits reach the farmers directly. Her smile stands as a symbol of the success of the state’s agricultural policies and the growing trust of farmers.
