Blast Suspect Dr Umar’s Video Surfaces, Reveals “Martyrdom Operation” Mindset

New Delhi, Nov 2025 : Days after the deadly blast in Delhi, a self-recorded video of the i20 car driver, Dr Umar Mohammad, has surfaced, shedding light on his extremist intent. In the video, Umar attempts to justify his actions by framing his terror plot as a “martyrdom operation,” adding a religious angle to the attack.

Speaking in a heavily accented tone, Umar explains, “One of the most misunderstood concepts is the concept of suicide bombing; it is a martyrdom operation, as it has been known in Islam.” He claims that there are “multiple contradictions and arguments” surrounding the idea, but insists it is justified when someone knowingly goes to die at a specific place and time.

Investigators say the video reveals a clear suicide-bombing mindset and indicates that Umar had been preparing for a large-scale terror strike. According to sources, officials suspect he recorded the video to brainwash and influence others into joining or supporting extremist activities.

The car bomb explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on November 10 killed at least 13 people and left several others injured. The vehicle was being driven by Dr Umar, a doctor associated with Al Falah University in Faridabad.

Originally from Koil village in Pulwama, Umar had been described by family members as a quiet, introverted person who preferred solitude and often spent long hours reading. However, police investigations suggest a notable behavioural shift in recent months. He had been absent from his university duties since October 30 and began making frequent trips between Faridabad and Delhi.

During this period, he reportedly visited several mosques near the Ramleela Maidan and Sunehri Masjid. Authorities believe these visits may have been connected to his radicalisation or operational planning.

Umar was reported missing on November 9, a day after police raids in Faridabad uncovered nearly 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate from a storage facility. Several of his associates were arrested during the crackdown, prompting concerns that the blast was part of a wider terror conspiracy.

Further investigation revealed that Umar and another accused, Dr Muzammil, who was arrested after the terror module was dismantled, had travelled to Turkey in recent months. Officials believe their handlers are based there and may have directed the planning and execution of the Delhi attack.

The discovery of Umar’s video has given investigators crucial insight into his motivations, reinforcing suspicions that the attack was part of a larger, ideologically driven terror network.
