Three PHCs in India Achieve National-Level NQAS Certification

Aizawl, December 2025: Three Primary Health Centres (PHCs) under India’s government health system—South Lungpher PHC, Bungtlang South PHC, and Tipa PHC—have recently achieved National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification, strengthening the quality of healthcare services in Mizoram. With this, out of the state’s 57 targeted HWC-PHCs, 43 have now received national-level NQAS certification. In the current phase, the government has assessed 16 PHCs and 31 HWC Sub-Centres at the national level.

Dr. Lily Chhakchhuak, Mission Director of NHM, Health & Family Welfare Department, stated that the assessment scores for the three PHCs were 86.10% (South Lungpher), 87.86% (Bungtlang South), and 90.90% (Tipa PHC). The assessment involved the State Quality Assurance Unit, District Quality Assurance Units of Lawngtlai and Siaha, senior officials including CMO and DPM, the PHC Medical Officers Dr. Zoliana Varte, Dr. Lalramchhana, and Dr. Vanlalruata Khiangte, along with supporting staff such as nurses, BAMs, health supervisors, lab technicians, optometrists, RKS/JAS chairpersons, and ASHAs. Their commitment and efforts in implementing quality protocols were highly appreciated.

The NQAS certification signifies that these facilities meet comprehensive quality standards. The certification process involves a National External Assessment, conducted by trained assessors from the state. Facilities must achieve at least 70% compliance to be certified.

Certified PHCs demonstrate excellence in several key areas:

  • Efficient and patient-centered healthcare delivery
  • Proper documentation and standardized practices
  • Effective clinical, administrative, and operational management
  • Cleanliness, hygiene, and safe environment
  • Well-maintained infrastructure and functional equipment
  • Staff accountability and performance monitoring

The DEO emphasized that NQAS-certified facilities serve as a model for others, inspiring improved healthcare standards and building trust among the community. This achievement marks a significant step in ensuring high-quality public health services across Mizoram.
