Former ISI Chief Faiz Hameed Sentenced to 14 Years by Military Court
Islamabad, Dec 2025 : Pakistan’s former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief, Faiz Hameed, has been sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment after being found guilty on multiple charges by a military court, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Thursday, according to local media reports.
The Field General Court Martial delivered the verdict against Hameed, who previously served as the Director General of ISI. In a press release, ISPR stated that the court martial proceedings began on August 12, 2024, under the Pakistan Army Act and continued for 15 months, according to Pakistani daily The Express Tribune.
Hameed faced four charges during the proceedings, which included: involvement in political activities; breaching the Official Secrets Act in a manner deemed “detrimental to the safety and interest of the state”; misuse of authority and government resources; and causing loss to individuals. The court found him guilty on all counts after what ISPR described as “lengthy and laborious legal proceedings.” The sentence was enforced on December 11.
The ISPR statement emphasized that the court martial adhered to all legal provisions and that Hameed was afforded full legal rights, including the choice of his defence team. It also noted that he has the right to appeal before the relevant forum.
The statement further clarified that Hameed’s alleged “involvement in fomenting vested political agitation and instability in cohorts with political elements” and other related matters are being handled separately, outside the current court martial proceedings.
According to ISPR, the charges addressed in the sentencing involved violations of military discipline, misuse of official authority, and actions considered prejudicial to the state’s interest. The separate political matters were not included in the court’s current ruling.
Faiz Hameed is a retired three-star general of the Pakistan Army’s Baloch Regiment. His military career spans over 30 years, during which he held several key operational and intelligence leadership positions. Hameed commanded the Peshawar and Bahawalpur corps and served as the Director General of ISI from 2019 to 2021, overseeing intelligence operations and strategic functions across the country.
The announcement marks one of the most high-profile convictions in recent years involving a retired senior military official in Pakistan, reflecting ongoing scrutiny over the role of former intelligence and military leaders in political and state affairs.
