Chhattisgarh Moves Ahead in the Field of Vegetable Production
Prime Minister Krishi Sinchai Yojana: 17,881 farmers benefited this year
Up to 75 percent subsidy to farmers under Shakambhari Scheme
3,234 farmers have received benefits
Raipur, December 2025 :Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, the guidance of Agriculture Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam, and the efforts of Shri Chandras Chandrahar Chandrakar, Chairman of the Seed Corporation, the state is now steadily progressing in the field of vegetable production. Earlier, farmers largely depended only on paddy cultivation, but now interest in vegetable farming is continuously increasing.
This progress has been made possible through various schemes of the State and Central Governments, under which farmers are being provided with improved vegetable seeds and drip irrigation systems through the transparent Campus Online Portal operated by the Chhattisgarh State Seed and Agriculture Development Corporation. As a result, vegetable cultivation is expanding, and vegetable-growing farmers are also becoming economically prosperous.
The drip irrigation system is based on the principle of “Per Drop More Crop”, meaning that through the drip system, the required water and essential nutrients reach the plant directly. This prevents wastage of water and other inputs. At the same time, reduced labour costs help minimize farmers’ financial losses and increase overall profitability.
It was informed that the State Seed Corporation provides drip and sprinkler systems to farmers with a government subsidy of up to 55 percent. At present, farmers cultivating rabi crops such as pulses and oilseeds, especially gram, are extensively benefiting from irrigation through the sprinkler method. During the year 2025–26, a total of 17,881 farmers (3,281 through drip systems and 14,600 through sprinkler systems) have been supported under the Prime Minister Krishi Sinchai Yojana by providing drip and sprinkler systems on subsidy, thereby contributing to their economic empowerment. This assistance will continue until the end of the financial year.
Through the Corporation, farmers are not only receiving demand-based improved varieties of seeds for both kharif and rabi seasons, but are also availing benefits under the Shakambhari Scheme via the Campus Online Portal by selecting irrigation pumps of their own choice. Under the Shakambhari Scheme, farmers are provided irrigation pumps with a subsidy of up to 75 percent, based on the make, model, and brand applied for by them.
A special feature of the scheme is that farmers who do not have access to electricity in their fields are also given the option to choose diesel pumps. Monoblock pumps, electric pumps, petrol pumps, diesel pumps, and open-well submersible pumps are all being made available to farmers at a 75 percent subsidy.
At present, the Seed Corporation has benefited 3,234 farmers this year through government subsidies. Efforts are being made to ensure that, as per targets, a maximum number of farmers are benefited by the end of the financial year.
