Marwari Community Symbolises Service and Cultural Unity: Om Birla

Jaipur, December 2025 : Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla on Monday said that the identity of the Marwari community is rooted in service, sacrifice, and dedication, and that its contribution has strengthened social and cultural bonds across the country. Addressing the Marwar Festival in Sambalpur, Odisha, he described Odisha as the sacred land of Lord Jagannath, rich in spirituality, culture, literature, and the legacy of freedom fighters.

Shri Birla noted that the Marwari community, which traces its origins to the land of valour and courage—Rajasthan—shares a deep emotional bond with its motherland while contributing selflessly to its place of work. He said the community has made invaluable contributions to Odisha through hard work, enterprise, and social responsibility, and has become an integral part of local society.

Highlighting the close historical and cultural ties between Rajasthan and Odisha, the Lok Sabha Speaker said both states share similarities in spiritual beliefs, cultural values, and thought traditions. He added that the Marwari community has earned global recognition through its spirit of service, sacrifice, and commitment, while always remaining connected to its roots.

Shri Birla further said that wherever they live, Marwaris actively fulfil social responsibilities. In times of disaster and crisis, the community is always at the forefront of relief efforts. He pointed out that the Marwari community has played a key role in promoting education by establishing schools, hospitals, and dharamshalas across regions. He also appreciated Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma for his initiatives to strengthen ties between migrant Rajasthanis and their homeland, including the organisation of Pravasi Rajasthani Diwas. He called upon everyone to contribute positively towards realising the vision of a developed India.

Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, both Rajasthan and Odisha are progressing rapidly. He added that investment opportunities are expanding in both states, reinforcing the vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.” He said the Marwar Festival would further promote and preserve India’s rich cultural heritage.

Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma said that Marwaris across the world are preserving their cultural traditions while strengthening national unity. He said the Marwari community has made remarkable contributions in education, healthcare, and social welfare, spreading the values and work ethic of Rajasthan wherever they live.

The Chief Minister described the festival, organised by the Marwari Yuva Manch, as a unique confluence of cultural unity, folk traditions, and Indian pride. He said the event showcases Rajasthan’s folk art, music, dance, handicrafts, and cuisine on a single platform, reflecting the soul of Indian culture.

Shri Sharma also highlighted that the state government organised Pravasi Rajasthani Diwas on December 10 through the Rajasthan Foundation, and noted that the number of Rajasthan Foundation chapters has now increased to 40. He urged migrant Rajasthanis to continue contributing to both their place of work and their homeland, adding that Additional District Collectors have been appointed as nodal officers in all districts to assist them.

Several dignitaries, including Odisha Minister Shri Rabi Narayan Naik, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Shri Suryabanshi Suraj, legislators, and prominent members of the Marwari community, were present on the occasion.
