Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana: Sprinkler and Drip Irrigation Bringing Multi-Dimensional Benefits to Farmers

19,306 farmers’ 16,154 hectares of agricultural land irrigated in the current financial year
Drip irrigation system extremely beneficial for vegetables, fruits, horticulture and cash crops
The scheme is a boon for farmers in low-rainfall areas
Raipur, January 2026 : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, continuous efforts are being made to increase agricultural production and cultivated area in the state. With the initiatives of Agriculture Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam, 19,306 farmers across the state are being provided the benefits of sprinkler and drip irrigation systems under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY), enabling irrigation facilities across 16,154 hectares of farmland. Farmers are also being actively encouraged to adopt these modern irrigation techniques.
Under the scheme, a subsidy of up to 55 percent is provided to small and marginal farmers, while other farmers are eligible for a subsidy of up to 45 percent. This financial support allows farmers to adopt modern irrigation systems at a lower cost, making advanced technology accessible even to those with limited resources.
Officials of the Chhattisgarh State Seed and Agriculture Development Corporation stated that the use of sprinkler and drip irrigation systems ensures uniform and need-based water supply to crops. As a result, water savings of around 30 to 40 percent are being achieved, while effective control over water wastage in fields has also become possible. Better utilisation of limited water resources has made farming more productive and profitable.
The drip irrigation system has proved to be especially beneficial for vegetables, fruits, horticulture crops and cash crops. At the same time, the sprinkler irrigation system has led to a noticeable increase in the productivity of pulses, oilseeds and cereal crops. Farmers have reported a 20 to 30 percent increase in crop yield due to the adoption of these systems, along with a reduction in fertiliser usage and labour costs.
Under the scheme, farmers are also being provided technical guidance, training, design approval and assistance in installation. This has increased awareness among farmers about modern agricultural technologies and has motivated them to adopt scientific farming practices. In drought-prone and low-rainfall areas, the scheme has emerged as a boon for farmers. Higher production with less water has strengthened farmers’ financial condition and ensured a sustainable increase in their income.
During the financial year 2025–26 so far, sprinkler irrigation systems have been installed for 15,757 farmers, covering an area of 12,212 hectares, while drip irrigation systems have been installed for 3,549 farmers, covering 3,942 hectares of agricultural land.
