Amit Shah Chairs High-Level Security Review on J&K, Emphasizes Crippling Terror Ecosystem
Jammu, Jan 2026 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi, focusing on counterterrorism measures and the continued dismantling of the region’s entire terror ecosystem. The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, senior officials from the Union and the Union Territory, as well as top security agency heads.
After the meeting, Shah took to X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Chaired a security review meeting for Jammu and Kashmir along with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Ji. Appreciated the security agencies for crippling the terror ecosystem in J&K while pursuing PM Narendra Modi’s vision of establishing lasting peace in the region. Reaffirmed that counterterror operations aimed at demolishing terrorist infrastructure and terror financing will continue in mission mode.”
The review emphasized eliminating terrorists in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir while ensuring zero infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border. This marked the first security review meeting chaired by the Home Minister in 2026.
Shah highlighted the importance of dismantling the support systems that sustain terrorism, including coordinated action against overground workers, sympathizers, and drug smuggling networks, which often serve as financial sources for terror activities in the region. Official sources said the Home Minister appreciated the role of security forces and underscored the need for seamless coordination among Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army, and Central Armed Police Forces engaged in counterterror operations.
Representing Jammu and Kashmir at the meeting were Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atul Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, DGP Nalin Prabhat, and CID Chief Nitish Kumar. From the Union Government, Union Home Secretary Gobind Mohan, IB Director Tapan Kumar Deka, and Director Generals of central armed forces attended.
The review also covered recent successful operations conducted by joint forces against terrorists of Pakistani origin, reportedly supported by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Official sources noted that Shah appreciated the tangible improvements on the ground resulting from enhanced security management and coordinated counterterror operations.
Shah expressed optimism that 2026 would witness a significant reduction in terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. “The people here want to live in peace, with dignity and better educational and professional opportunities for their children,” he said. The Home Minister reiterated that counterterrorism efforts would continue in “mission mode” to dismantle terrorist infrastructure, disrupt financing channels, and secure lasting peace in the Union Territory.
