BJP Will Never Be an Alternative to Congress in Telangana, Says KTR

Hyderabad, Jan 2026 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will never emerge as a viable political alternative to the Congress in Telangana, maintaining that the state’s political contest remains firmly between the BRS and the Congress. He made these remarks while addressing a preparatory meeting ahead of the upcoming municipal elections, attended by key party leaders from Adilabad and Medak districts.

The strategy session was also attended by senior BRS leader and Deputy Floor Leader T. Harish Rao. During the meeting, KTR outlined a clear roadmap for the municipal polls and provided strategic direction to district presidents, elected representatives, and party cadre. He stressed the need for a focused and aggressive campaign that highlights what he described as the Congress government’s failures and unfulfilled promises over the last two years.

KTR urged party workers to take the message directly to the people and expose what he termed the Congress party’s “betrayal of public trust” and administrative inefficiency at the grassroots level. According to him, the people of Telangana are increasingly dissatisfied with the current dispensation and are comparing what he called 24 months of Congress misrule with the decade-long record of development under the BRS government.

Senior leaders present at the meeting informed KTR that the BJP’s political graph in Telangana has fallen sharply since the Parliament elections. They conveyed that the saffron party no longer poses a significant challenge, reinforcing the view that the forthcoming municipal elections will be a straight contest between the BRS and the Congress.

KTR claimed that early signs of a political shift are already visible. He pointed to electoral outcomes ranging from the Jubilee Hills by-election to recent Panchayat polls, arguing that voters have begun signalling a renewed preference for the BRS. These results, he said, reflect growing public frustration with the Congress government’s performance.

Dismissing the BJP’s showing in the Lok Sabha elections as a “fluke,” KTR said it was driven by a temporary and unique national-level bipolar political atmosphere. He asserted that the BJP lacks a strong organisational base or grassroots presence in Telangana and has failed to convert its parliamentary performance into sustained political relevance in the state.

Highlighting what he called the BJP’s contradictions, KTR noted that several senior BJP leaders suffered heavy defeats in the Assembly elections, even as the party briefly gained ground in the general elections. He accused the BJP of maintaining silence while the Congress government allegedly compromised Telangana’s interests, particularly on critical interstate issues such as the sharing of Krishna River waters.

Turning his focus back to the Congress, KTR launched a sharp attack on its governance record. He described the past 24 months as a period marked by administrative failure, deception, and misuse of power. He alleged that the Congress has failed to honour its promises to various sections of society and cited recent Panchayat elections as examples of irregularities and abuse of authority.

KTR further accused the Congress government of acting against Telangana’s interests in interstate disputes, especially in matters related to water rights. He reiterated that the BRS has been the only party consistently fighting for the people and standing against what he termed the “anarchy, corruption, and misgovernance” of the current regime.

Expressing confidence ahead of the municipal elections, KTR said the upcoming polls would expose the Congress government’s false claims and administrative shortcomings. He added that the people of Telangana are eager to return to what he described as the visionary and development-oriented leadership of the BRS.
