September 2026: The election campaign of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has gained momentum in Gandhinagar ahead of the upcoming Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation elections.
On Monday, AAP’s declared and prospective candidates conducted a door-to-door campaign throughout the day across Ward No. 9, Divisions 1 and 2, Sector 2/A, Ward No. 3 and Ward No. 10, among other areas. During the campaign, party representatives informed residents about the AAP’s manifesto and outlined the issues the party intends to address if elected to the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation.
The candidates spoke to residents about AAP’s proposed plans covering education, healthcare, roads, drainage, cultural activities, sports, transportation, parking and environmental protection, among other civic issues.
AAP candidates Manisha Parmar, Mehulbhai Shrimali, Vivekbhai Patel and Bharat Joshi, along with party workers, state-level office-bearers and local office-bearers, participated in the campaign. A large number of party workers and supporters were also present during the door-to-door outreach.
During the campaign, AAP candidates also raised concerns over the current civic situation in Gandhinagar and presented their assessment of the city’s development and basic services over the past five years.
According to the party candidates, three major issues have emerged from the functioning of the municipal corporation, with the first being an alleged failure to provide essential civic services and fulfil its basic responsibilities.
The candidates alleged that sewage water has been mixing with drinking water supplied to residents in parts of the city, forcing people to consume contaminated water. They claimed that the problem had contributed to the spread of illness among residents.
The AAP candidates further alleged that despite the situation, neither the government nor the municipal leadership, including the Mayor, had taken responsibility by resigning. They also questioned the absence of what they described as an adequate investigation and legal action against those responsible.
The party also raised concerns over Gandhinagar’s green cover. AAP candidates said the city had historically been known as one of the world’s greenest capitals, but alleged that indiscriminate tree cutting in the name of development had reduced its green cover.
They claimed that adequate plantation had not been undertaken to compensate for the loss of trees and argued that Gandhinagar was gradually losing its identity as a green city.
AAP said that, if elected, it would focus on ensuring access to clean drinking water, improving the city’s drainage system and providing residents with essential civic amenities.
The party also said its campaign would continue to focus on issues directly affecting residents and that its candidates would seek to communicate the provisions of its manifesto to people across different wards of Gandhinagar.
The door-to-door campaign is part of AAP’s wider efforts to reach voters ahead of the municipal elections and present its proposed civic priorities to residents.
The party said that improving basic municipal services, strengthening public health infrastructure, maintaining roads and drainage systems, protecting the environment and improving transportation and parking facilities would remain among its key areas of focus.
AAP candidates urged residents to consider the party’s proposals and participate in the upcoming municipal electoral process.
