New Delhi, Aug 2026 : Cooperative-led digital mobility platform Bharat Taxi has registered 8.48 lakh drivers and 44.27 lakh customers and is currently facilitating an average of 11,106 rides every day across the country, the Parliament was informed on Wednesday.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that the platform, operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited (STCL), has enabled cumulative earnings of Rs 83.70 crore for its drivers, known as Sarathis. The service has been officially launched in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
According to the Ministry of Cooperation, Bharat Taxi is being expanded to other states in phases. The rollout is being undertaken based on operational requirements and after obtaining the necessary approvals from the concerned authorities.
The ministry said the expansion depends on several factors, including operational preparedness, availability of drivers or Sarathis, completion of statutory requirements and coordination with state governments, cooperative institutions and other stakeholders.
The implementation of the platform includes multiple stages, beginning with the registration and onboarding of drivers. It also involves customer enrolment, training programmes and the gradual expansion of services to identified cities and states.
Delhi-NCR currently accounts for the highest number of daily rides on the platform, with an average of 5,574 trips. Gujarat follows with 3,817 daily rides. Pune records 632 rides, while Jaipur has 372 and Lucknow 324. Mumbai and Chandigarh account for 197 and 190 daily rides, respectively. Together, these locations contribute to the reported 11,106 average daily rides.
The minister said Bharat Taxi is a cooperative-based mobility platform operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited under the provisions of the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002. The platform is aimed at providing a cooperative framework for mobility services while enabling drivers to participate as members and benefit from the platform.
The government also highlighted cooperation between Bharat Taxi and Yatri Sathi, a mobility platform developed and operated by the Department of Information Technology and Electronics of the West Bengal government.
STCL signed a memorandum of understanding with the West Bengal government on July 19, 2026, to collaborate with the Yatri Sathi platform.
Under the agreement, Bharat Taxi will support Yatri Sathi in areas including driver enrolment, cooperative membership, driver welfare and public outreach.
The government said the phased expansion of Bharat Taxi is intended to strengthen its presence across more cities and states while ensuring that operational and regulatory requirements are addressed before services are introduced.
