NEW DELHI | The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held the BJP government’s incompetence responsible for the gangrape of a minor girl in Kalkaji, with AAP Delhi Unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj calling out the police for the rise in sexual assault cases in the capital. He cited the sexual assault of a three-year-old girl in Janakpuri, stating that the government remained silent even when the DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police) and SHO (Station House Officer) threatened her parents.
Saurabh Bharadwaj also called out Delhi Police for functioning as a political tool, stating that it registers two cases against him every month but refuses to register complaints of harassment by girls until they are raped. He said such incidents will continue unless the government takes action against criminals operating openly across the city.
AAP Delhi Unit Chief Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “A three-year-old girl was raped in Janakpuri, but the entire government remained silent. The DCP and SHO were threatening the girl’s parents, yet the government remained completely silent. Has anyone ever seen Delhi Police taking a rapist down the street while beating him with a stick? But Gen-Z children were beaten with sticks and dragged on the streets. Delhi Police is very active when it comes to doing all this.”
Saurabh Bharadwaj said that the overall message from Delhi is that the police is being used purely as a political tool. “Delhi Police registers two new cases against me every month. Sometimes the Special Cell registers a case, sometimes the police register one, and sometimes the ACB registers one. The police have so much time, but these cases merely remain registered and nothing further happens in them. If a girl approaches the police and says that two goons from her neighbourhood harass her, the police will not register her case,” he added.
He further stated that the police does not register such cases because it waits until the girl is raped. “When the police does not exercise any control over the goons standing in streets and lanes across the city, and those goons drink alcohol and eat chicken with beat constables at night, this is what will happen in the city,” he said.
Meanwhile, senior AAP leader and Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar said, “CM Rekha Gupta, what is happening in Delhi? Every day, reports of minor girls being gangraped are emerging from Delhi. The incident reported from the Kalkaji Temple area is extremely tragic and shameful. A 17-year-old girl who had come to visit the temple was gangraped by three youths at Ashta Kunj Park. It is noted that all three claimed to be police personnel and threatened the girl and her friend. During this, one of the accused restrained the girl’s friend.”
Kuldeep Kumar questioned why girls in Delhi are not safe despite the BJP’s four-engine government in the capital. He asked what meaning the government’s claims about law and order and women’s safety have if such incidents continue to take place against daughters in the capital. “Delhi’s daughters need security, not fear. The government will have to answer. Has the fear of the police disappeared among criminals in Delhi? Has the rule of law now ended in the capital? Our daughters are not safe, and the government is merely watching the spectacle,” he concluded.
