Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that farmers, through their hard work, produce food that sustains society, and the state government is committed to addressing their concerns and ensuring access to all necessary facilities.
Chief Ministedr Dr. Yadav, addressing the Balram Krishi Mahotsav in Chhatarpur virtually from New Delhi on Saturday, interacted with progressive farmers and public representatives. He described Bundelkhand as the land of diamonds, noting that diamonds are found in its soil. He also highlighted peppermint cultivation in the district and appreciated the quality of its furniture.
The Balram Krishi Mahotsav was organised to familiarise farmers with the latest technologies, advanced farming practices and modern agricultural resources for the Rabi season. The programme commenced with ceremonial lamp lighting by public representatives. Minister of State for Forest and Environment Shri Dilip Ahirwar, Apex Bank Administrator Dr. Mahendra Singh Yadav, Cooperative Administrator Shri K.P. Singh and Rajnagar MLA Shri Arvind Pateria were present at the event in Chhatarpur.
Ken-Betwa Project to Boost Irrigation in Bundelkhand
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav praised the Ken-Betwa Link Project initiated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, saying the ambitious project will provide significant irrigation benefits to farmers across Bundelkhand and other beneficiary regions. He said enhanced irrigation facilities will give fresh impetus to the agriculture sector and strengthen farmers’ economic well-being. The Chief Minister highlighted Bundelkhand’s valour and glorious traditions, referring to the legendary tale of Alha-Udal. He urged farmers and those present to avoid unnecessary expenditure on social functions and promote mass marriages.
Farmers Share Agricultural Innovations
During the virtual interaction, progressive farmer Shri Salim Khan of Chhatarpur shared his experience in organic and natural farming, holistic farming and medicinal crop cultivation. He also encouraged other farmers to adopt natural farming practices.
Shri Saurabh Bhatnagar of Bijawar highlighted his work in organic and natural farming, fruit and vegetable cultivation, and integrated farming activities, including poultry, fish and duck farming.
Smt. Habibai of Salaiya village, from the tribal community, spoke about cultivating, processing and marketing Kodo, Kutki, Ragi, Bajra, Jowar and other millets.
Shri Anil Yadav of Hatna village shared details of his Custom Hiring Centre, where he has purchased six agricultural machines, including a tractor. By renting out the equipment to fellow farmers, he earned around ₹5.50 lakh last year.
Smt. Tulsa Kushwaha of Lakhanguwan shared her experience of organic and natural farming, crop and vegetable cultivation, poultry, fish farming and duck rearing, which have helped her earn good returns. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav also interacted with various public representatives from the district.
Progressive Farmers and Meritorious Students Honoured
Ten progressive farmers from the district were honoured with certificates of appreciation by Minister of State for Forest and Environment Shri Dilip Ahirwar and other public representatives. Meritorious children of farmers who secured positions in the merit list were also felicitated.
Modern Farming Technologies Showcased
Agricultural scientists and subject experts briefed farmers on improved varieties of major Rabi crops, latest farming technologies, advanced cultivation practices, crop management and other contemporary agricultural issues. They also guided farmers on adopting modern technologies to enhance productivity and increase farm incomes.
Seeds, Farm Machinery and Fertiliser Facilities Highlighted
Various departments and institutions set up exhibitions and stalls showcasing improved seed varieties, modern farm machinery, fertiliser use and distribution through the e-Vikas system, along with other agriculture-related facilities.
The Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Agricultural Engineering departments also put up stalls, while private agricultural dealers showcased farm equipment, materials and technologies for the benefit of farmers.
