Food Safety Department Conducts Major Action; 233 Establishments Inspected in Lucknow, Noida and Gorakhpur, 163 Improvement Notices Issued
Process Initiated to Suspend Licences of 13 Food Outlets in Noida Over Poor Hygiene and Violation of Standards
Lucknow, September 2026 : As part of the Yogi government's priority to ensure food quality and consumer safety, the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department carried out a widespread inspection and enforcement drive against fast-food chains, restaurants and other food establishments.
A total of 152 teams inspected 233 establishments across Lucknow, Noida and Gorakhpur. During the inspections, 163 improvement notices were issued for deficiencies found at various establishments. Action was also initiated against establishments found violating serious food safety norms, including suspension of licences and closure of food businesses.
78 Establishments Inspected in Lucknow
In Lucknow, 52 teams inspected 78 food courts and fast-food establishments, resulting in the issuance of 42 improvement notices.
The departmental inspection found deficiencies in food storage and handling, hygiene, separate storage of raw and cooked food, and compliance with food safety standards.
At Subway, Shalimar Gateway and Alambagh, inadequate drainage arrangements and unsatisfactory hygiene and sanitary conditions were found. Rodent infestation and food contamination were also detected, following which the food business was ordered to stop operations.
At Goli Vada Pav and Arc Baleno, the presence of rodents, unhygienic conditions and fungus on walls and food items were reported. The department recommended closure of these establishments.
At Bikanervala, Fun Mall, inspectors found fungus in food items, rodents on the premises, foul odour, gravy contamination and waterlogging. In view of these serious deficiencies, the establishment was closed and its licence suspended.
Poor Kitchen Conditions Found in Noida
In Noida, 57 teams inspected 71 establishments and issued 42 improvement notices. Several serious food safety violations were detected during the inspections.
According to the department, fungus, rodent infestation, unhygienic conditions, expired non-vegetarian food and other violations were found in some kitchens.
The process of suspending the licences of 13 establishments has been initiated. These include Moti Mahal Delux, Nihao, Punjabi Dhaba-61, Castle Barbeque, Road House, Paddy Hospitality/Rolling Fresh, The Yellow Chilli, Ministry of Daru, Taste of Delhi and Zaika, Eat Club, Absolute Barbecues, Carnival Food Delight and Yellow Chilli Restaurant.
The inspections found food being stored at improper temperatures, raw and cooked food kept together, dirty utensils, unhygienic kitchens, inadequate pest-control measures, expired ingredients and improper storage of food items at these establishments.
84 Establishments Inspected in Gorakhpur
In Gorakhpur, 43 teams inspected 84 establishments and issued 79 improvement notices.
The department said establishments found failing to meet prescribed standards would be given time to rectify the deficiencies. If the shortcomings are not addressed within the stipulated period, further action, including suspension or cancellation of licences and other legal proceedings, will be initiated.
The Food Safety Department has directed all food business operators to maintain proper hygiene, ensure safe storage, possess valid licences, use quality raw materials and store food products at prescribed temperatures.
The department said enforcement action would continue against establishments found compromising consumer health and violating food safety standards.
