Review of Various Projects, Including Pohra River Rejuvenation
Nagpur, Sept 2026 : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that all works underway in Nagpur city under the ‘AMRUT 2’ scheme be completed expeditiously and with due quality by March 2027.
Fadnavis was speaking at a review meeting held at Ramgiri Government Residence to take stock of development works being carried out in the city under the ‘AMRUT 2’ scheme, along with the important issue of pollution control and rejuvenation of the Pohra River.
MLA Pravin Datke, Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar, Additional Commissioner Ankit, Chief Minister’s OSD Asha Pathan, Public Works Department Chief Engineer Sambhaji Mane, Executive Engineer Neeta Thakre, Municipal Corporation Chief Engineer Leena Upadhye, corporators and senior officials were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, the road excavation and subsequent restoration works being undertaken in the city under the ‘AMRUT 2’ scheme were reviewed. The corporators present raised issues related to excavation and restoration work in their respective wards. They also highlighted various concerns regarding the work being carried out by the Public Works Department on the Ring Road.
MLA Pravin Datke expressed dissatisfaction over the inconvenience being caused to citizens. Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani also briefed the Chief Minister about the difficulties faced by citizens during the monsoon.
Responding to the concerns, Chief Minister Fadnavis directed that there should be no compromise while carrying out restoration or pothole-filling work on cement roads. He instructed the authorities to strictly follow scientific methods while undertaking such works.
He further directed that a joint meeting of all concerned departments be convened to formulate a comprehensive policy for road excavation and subsequent restoration work in the city. The departments concerned should also work in proper coordination, he said.
The Chief Minister warned that strict action would be taken against officials and contractors found negligent or failing to perform their duties properly.
During the meeting, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar made a detailed presentation on the works being carried out under the ‘AMRUT 2’ scheme as well as the project for eliminating pollution from and rejuvenating the Pohra River.
He also provided details about the Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) proposed at various locations. An STP with a capacity of 10 MLD will be constructed at Jaitala, while a 35 MLD STP will be established at Chikhali.
It was also informed that pumping stations will be constructed at Chinchbhavan, BD Peth and Somalwada as part of the project.
The Chief Minister directed the concerned departments and agencies to ensure timely completion of the projects while maintaining quality standards and effective coordination.
