Administrative approval of Rs 1,093.73 crore for 44 major road projects across six districts
Raipur, September 2026: The Chhattisgarh government has taken a major step towards strengthening development and good governance in the Surguja division by approving 44 major road projects worth a total of Rs 1,093.73 crore.
The projects will cover all six districts of the division — Surguja, Surajpur, Balrampur-Ramanujganj, Koriya, Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur and Jashpur. The works will include construction of new roads, widening, asphalting, strengthening and upgrading of existing roads, construction of four-lane roads, and bridges and culverts at required locations.
Surguja District
In the Ambikapur Assembly constituency, Rs 69.10 crore has been approved for four-laning a five-km stretch from Larang Sai Chowk to the Ramanujganj road. Another Rs 61.34 crore has been sanctioned for a five-km four-lane road from Gandhi Chowk to the railway station.
Various road and culvert strengthening works in the Lundra and Sitapur areas have also been included, including the Sontarai-Mainpat road, for which Rs 26.33 crore has been approved.
Surajpur District
In the Bhatgaon Assembly constituency, Rs 64.93 crore has been sanctioned for the 63-km Tara-Premnagar-Ramanujnagar-Krishnapur road.
Other projects include the Kalyanpur-Latori road, with an allocation of Rs 40.93 crore, the Vishunpur-Surajpur-Odagi road, for which Rs 32.24 crore has been approved, and strengthening of Surajpur's 17-km ring road at a cost of Rs 16.39 crore.
Balrampur-Ramanujganj District
The government has approved Rs 38.80 crore for upgrading the 18-km Parsawar-Chalgali road. Another Rs 35.32 crore has been sanctioned for the Wadrafnagar-Janakpur-Balangi road, while Rs 25.69 crore has been approved for the Kameshwarnagar-Lurgi road.
These projects are also expected to improve connectivity to border areas.
Jashpur District
In Jashpur, Rs 40.32 crore has been approved for strengthening the 55.80-km Ludeg-Bagbahar-Tapkara-Lawakera state highway.
The government has also sanctioned Rs 36.85 crore for upgrading the hilly stretches of Pathalgaon and Rs 34.44 crore for the Batauli-Bagicha-Charidand road.
Roads to Become Lifelines of Development
The extensive road infrastructure projects are expected to provide benefits beyond improved transportation. Better connectivity will boost agriculture and trade by enabling farmers to transport their produce more easily to markets, thereby strengthening local businesses and the rural economy.
Improved roads will also enhance access to healthcare and education. Students and patients from remote forested areas will find it easier to reach schools, colleges and health centres. Better connectivity will also facilitate faster delivery of government schemes and administrative services to villages.
The 44 projects worth Rs 1,093.73 crore are expected to become a major milestone in the overall development of the Surguja division, encouraging investment, improving connectivity and contributing to a better quality of life for citizens.
