Hyderabad, Sept 2026 : The women’s wing of the Telangana BJP on Tuesday organised a ‘Mahila Shakti Scooty Rally’ in Hyderabad ahead of Hyderabad Liberation Day, demanding that the state government officially observe September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day.
The rally, organised by the BJP Mahila Morcha, began at the Shri Bhagya Laxmi Temple near Charminar and culminated at the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel near the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and Telangana BJP president Ramchander Rao participated in the rally on a motorcycle after offering prayers at the Bhagya Laxmi Temple.
Addressing the gathering, Kishan Reddy said the rally was organised to honour the courage and sacrifices of Telangana’s women who participated in the struggle against the Nizam and the Razakars. He said the enthusiastic participation of women reflected the spirit associated with Hyderabad Liberation Day.
BJP leaders also paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel by garlanding his statue.
Kishan Reddy said Telangana was the land of courageous women who resisted the alleged atrocities committed during the rule of the Nizam and the Razakars. He accused successive Congress and BRS governments of not officially observing September 17 in the state, alleging that they were influenced by vote-bank considerations linked to the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
The Union Minister said the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been organising Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations on a large scale every year, respecting the aspirations of the people of Telangana.
He said this year’s Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations would be held at the Secunderabad Parade Grounds and appealed to people to participate in large numbers in what he described as a historic event.
Ramchander Rao said the BJP had been consistently demanding that September 17 be officially observed as ‘Telangana Vimochana Diwas’ or Telangana Liberation Day.
He alleged that both the Congress and BRS governments had avoided officially celebrating the day due to political considerations and alleged fear of AIMIM.
Rao further alleged that AIMIM represented the ideological legacy of the Nizam’s forces and Razakars.
He said the BJP-led Central government had been officially commemorating Hyderabad Liberation Day in the region for the past five years and demanded that the Congress government in Telangana also officially organise celebrations on September 17.
The rally saw participation by a large number of women BJP workers, with party leaders reiterating their demand for official recognition of the day by the Telangana government.
