Hyderabad, Sept 2026 : Senior Telangana Congress leader Konda Surekha, who was dropped from the state Cabinet earlier this month over alleged indiscipline, and her husband Konda Murali on Sunday made it clear that they have no plans to leave the Congress party.
Addressing their supporters in Warangal, the couple said that positions and power had never been their priority and that they wanted to be remembered by the people for their work. The public meeting marked Surekha’s first major address since Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy removed her from the Cabinet.
Surekha was dropped from the ministry after the Congress high command reportedly took serious note of her response to a show-cause notice issued to her. The notice followed remarks and an outburst by her daughter, Konda Sushmitha, against the Chief Minister.
Speaking to her supporters, Surekha said she was not upset about losing the ministerial position but was unhappy with the reason cited for her removal.
She also expressed concern over what she described as the growing politics of opportunism. Referring to her political journey, Surekha said she had risen from the position of Mandal Praja Parishad (MPP) president to becoming a minister, while alleging that some political leaders frequently switched parties for their own benefit.
“From the MPP post, I rose to the position of a minister. Some people switch parties every day,” she remarked, apparently targeting her political rivals.
Surekha recalled that she had earlier resigned from the ministerial position for the sake of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
She also alleged that attempts had been made by some individuals to prevent her from securing an election ticket. Recalling the 2014 Assembly elections, she said former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had personally called her and offered her the ticket to contest from Warangal East.
Surekha contested the election as a Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidate and defeated the then Congress minister from the constituency.
After joining the Congress in 2018, Surekha contested from Warangal East on a Congress ticket in the 2023 Assembly elections and won the seat again.
She said her victory had enabled the people of Warangal East to live peacefully, while asserting her continued commitment to the constituency.
Surekha also disclosed that some of her supporters were planning to launch an agitation against her removal from the Cabinet. However, she said she had advised them not to do so and to respect the decision of the Congress high command.
Making her future political plans clear, Surekha said she would not remain at home merely because she had lost the ministerial post. She said she would continue to stay among the people and work for them.
She also expressed confidence that the Congress would win a majority of seats in the forthcoming elections to the Warangal Municipal Corporation, signalling her intention to remain active in Telangana politics despite her removal from the Cabinet.
