Convoy stops during drought inspection tour near Pimpalgaon; injured rushed to hospital
Nashik, Sept 2026 : An accident involving two trucks occurred in the Pimpalgaon area when the convoy of Maharashtra Water Resources Minister and Nashik Guardian Minister Girish Mahajan was passing through the area during his tour to assess the drought-like situation in the district.
One of the trucks reportedly suffered a sudden tyre burst, lost control and collided with another truck. When Mahajan noticed that several people were trapped inside the vehicle, he immediately stopped his convoy and rushed to the accident site.
Several people, including the driver and cleaner, were trapped inside the damaged truck. Taking note of the seriousness of the situation, Mahajan joined the rescue operation. He climbed onto the truck himself and helped rescue the injured people trapped inside. His colleagues and local residents present at the spot also joined the rescue efforts.
After the injured were brought out, the Guardian Minister made immediate arrangements to ensure that they received medical attention without delay. The injured were transported to a hospital in a government vehicle for treatment. Administrative officials and staff present at the site were also instructed to take necessary measures.
MLA Gokul Gite, District Collector Ayush Prasad and other administrative officials and representatives were present at the spot.
Drought inspection tour halted as minister prioritises rescue
The accident occurred while Mahajan was touring Nashik district to assess the drought-like situation. He temporarily halted his inspection tour and gave priority to assisting the accident victims.
Rather than limiting himself to issuing instructions, Mahajan personally participated in the rescue operation and helped bring the injured out of the truck. He was seen climbing into the truck cabin and assisting in efforts to rescue those trapped inside.
Mahajan has previously stopped convoy to help accident victims
This is not the first time Mahajan has stopped his convoy to assist people involved in accidents or emergencies.
On September 13, when a truck overturned near Mulund Bridge, he stopped his convoy, checked on the injured and directed officials to take immediate steps to restore traffic movement.
During an earlier visit to Nashik, he had also stopped his convoy to assist a woman who suddenly fell ill on the roadside.
Such incidents have highlighted Mahajan's emphasis on ensuring immediate assistance to citizens in distress during administrative tours and public engagements.
“Saving lives comes first; everything else can wait”
At Pimpalgaon, despite being on a drought inspection tour, Mahajan stopped his convoy and immediately rushed to the accident site. He personally assisted in rescuing those trapped inside the truck and ensured that the injured were sent for medical treatment at the earliest.
His intervention also prompted officials, party workers and local residents present at the spot to join the rescue operation.
The incident underlined the priority given to immediate assistance during an emergency, with the rescue of accident victims taking precedence over the ongoing inspection tour.
