Power Plants of the State Set New Records:Zero Demurrage Coal Unloading Achieved at Suratgarh and Chhabra Thermal Stations

Jaipur, May 2026 : The Rajasthan State Power Generation Corporation has achieved a major milestone as its 1500 MW Suratgarh Super Thermal Power Project (6×250 MW) and 1000 MW Chhabra Super Thermal Power Project (4×250 MW) have consistently managed coal rake unloading without any demurrage charges.

At the Suratgarh Thermal Power Plant (1500 MW), more than 750 coal rakes have been unloaded without demurrage from 4 September 2025 to 23 May 2026. Zero demurrage charges help reduce the overall cost of coal, thereby supporting the availability of cheaper electricity for consumers. Similarly, at the Chhabra Thermal Power Plant (1000 MW), 521 coal rakes have been unloaded without demurrage from 2 November 2025 up to the present date.

This achievement has been made possible due to the efficient maintenance and operation of coal handling system machinery at both plants, along with the tireless efforts of the employees, which ensured the immediate unloading of coal rakes.

Earlier, the Suratgarh Thermal Power Plant had set a record by unloading a maximum of 485 coal rakes without demurrage between 27 February 2025 and 27 July 2025. Demurrage charges are imposed by the railways when wagons are not unloaded within the stipulated time period.

Energy Minister Shri Heeralal Nagar expressed satisfaction over this achievement and congratulated the management and employees. He said he expects that in the future too, all power plants under the corporation will continue to set new records of excellence.

Energy Secretary Smt. Aarti Dogra congratulated Chairman and Managing Director Shri Devendra Shrangi and his team, and encouraged all power plants to further improve operational efficiency and continue working with strong team spirit.

The Chairman and Managing Director of the Power Generation Corporation, Shri Devendra Shrangi, stated that this achievement is a reflection of the hard work of employees and efficient management practices.
