Nice, June 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the French city of Nice on Saturday for an official State visit at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, marking another significant chapter in the deepening strategic partnership between India and France.
Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of the visit, which will include engagements in Nice, Evian and Paris, featuring both bilateral and multilateral meetings aimed at strengthening India’s ties with key global partners.
“I have just landed in Nice. Beyond Nice, this visit to France includes programmes in Evian and Paris. It will be marked by bilateral and multilateral meetings, aimed at strengthening India’s bonds of friendship with its key development partners,” the Prime Minister posted on X.
He also expressed enthusiasm about his upcoming engagements with President Macron and India’s flagship innovation showcase. “I look forward to meeting President Macron tomorrow and being present at ‘Bharat Innovates’,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Macron in Nice on June 14. The two leaders are expected to review the full spectrum of India-France relations, covering areas such as defence, trade, technology, climate action, innovation and people-to-people exchanges.
A major highlight of the visit will be the joint inauguration of the ‘Bharat Innovates’ event by the two leaders. The event is set to bring together leading startups, innovators and venture capital funds from India, France and several other countries.
The event is being organised during the ‘India-France Year of Innovation’ and is expected to further strengthen the growing innovation partnership between the two nations.
India and France elevated their ties to a “Special Global Strategic Partnership,” and the upcoming summit in Nice will be the first bilateral summit between Modi and Macron under this upgraded framework.
The visit reflects the continued momentum of high-level engagements between the two countries and seeks to deepen cooperation across science and technology, economy, culture and innovation ecosystems.
Following his engagements in Nice, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Evian to participate in the G7 Summit on June 16 and 17 at the invitation of President Macron. India’s participation in the summit underscores its rising global profile and its role as a leading voice of the Global South.
The Ministry of External Affairs has stated that India’s presence at the G7 reflects its growing importance in addressing shared global challenges, including sustainable development, technology governance and economic resilience.
The Prime Minister will conclude his visit in Paris on June 18, where he will join President Macron at the VivaTech Summit, Europe’s largest technology and startup event.
Notably, India will host the largest pavilion at this year’s VivaTech Summit, showcasing the country’s innovation capabilities and entrepreneurial ecosystem. Prime Minister Modi’s participation in both ‘Bharat Innovates’ and VivaTech is expected to strengthen technology partnerships between India and Europe while highlighting India’s emergence as a global hub for innovation and digital transformation.
