Cabinet Decisions
Cabinet approval to Urban Redevelopment Policy 2026
UP’s Yogi government has taken a major step to give a fresh momentum to urban development in the state. In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approval was granted to the Uttar Pradesh Urban Redevelopment Policy 2026.
Through this policy, those areas and buildings in cities will be redeveloped that were once developed or constructed but are now underutilized, unused over time, or not being optimally used.
The policy has been introduced to improve the physical, economic, social, and environmental conditions of such properties.
Under the new policy, redevelopment of these areas will transform the urban landscape. It will enable the redevelopment of the residential properties that, despite having the potential for large-scale development, are currently lying unused or underutilized. This will promote planned development along with the economic growth of cities and ensure the availability of quality residential complexes. The development of well-planned residential complexes will improve the quality of urban living and make access to basic amenities easier.
Implementation of this policy will generate new momentum in the real estate and construction sectors, leading to the creation of new employment opportunities and strengthening the local economy.
Notably, the Uttar Pradesh Urban Redevelopment Policy 2026 will not impose any additional financial burden on the state government. The policy will come into effect as soon as the government order is issued following Cabinet approval. This policy is expected to give a new direction to the state’s urban economic development.
Permanent rehabilitation for 99 Hindu Bengali families displaced from East Pakistan
The state government has taken a major and humane decision regarding the rehabilitation of Hindu Bengali families displaced from East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh) and residing in Uttar Pradesh.
The cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved this proposal related to the Meerut district.
The case concerns Nagla Gusai village in Mawana tehsil of Meerut district, where 99 Hindu Bengali families displaced from East Pakistan have been residing unlawfully on land at the lakefront for an extended period.
According to the cabinet decision, all 99 families will be rehabilitated in the Rasulabad tehsil of Kanpur Dehat district.
Fifty families will be settled on 11.1375 hectares (27.5097 acres) of land registered in the name of the Rehabilitation Department in Bhainsa village, and the remaining 49 families will be settled on 10.530 hectares (26.009 acres) of land registered in the name of the Rehabilitation Department in Tajpur Tarsauli village.
Each family will be allotted 0.50 acres of land. This land will be given on a 30-year lease, either on a premium or lease rent, which can be renewed for further periods of 30 years each.
Thus, the maximum lease period will be 90 years. This decision will ensure environmental protection as well as the dignified and secure rehabilitation of the displaced families.
These families, living in temporary conditions for a long time, will now have a permanent home and future security.
136 disaster-affected families in Bahraich to be resettled at a safer location
The CM Yogi government has taken a significant and humanitarian decision to rehabilitate the disaster-affected families of Bharthapur revenue village in Bahraich district by relocating them to a safer location. Acting on the announcement made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal to relocate the village and resettle 136 affected families. The new settlement will be named with the approval of the Chief Minister.
Bharthapur village is geographically vulnerable, being flanked by the Gerua River on one side and the Kaudiyala River on the other, while its northern boundary lies adjacent to a wildlife area and the Nepal border. The absence of road connectivity has forced residents to depend entirely on boats for daily movement, exposing them to constant life-threatening risks.
On October 29, 2025, a tragic boat accident in the Kaudiyala River claimed the lives of nine people. Following the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted an aerial survey of the area on November 2, 2025, interacted with the affected families, and announced their relocation to a safe and secure location. The cabinet has now given formal approval to implement this decision.
Under the resettlement plan, the affected families will be relocated to Semrahana Gram Panchayat in Mihinpurwa (Motipur) tehsil. For this purpose, approximately 1.70 hectares of land will be transferred free of cost to the Revenue Department, with the land transfer process to be completed by the District Magistrate of Bahraich.
Each of the 136 families will be allotted individual residential plots and provided permanent housing under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana/Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, ensuring a safe, secure, and dignified living environment. The new settlement will be equipped with essential infrastructure, including roads, drainage systems, concrete and interlocking-tile roads, green belts, LED street lighting, and drinking water facilities. These development works will be executed through the Public Works Department, the Rural Development Department, and the Jal Jeevan Mission.
The responsibility for allotting land to eligible families has been entrusted to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Mihinpurwa (Motipur). Upon completion of all infrastructure and basic amenities, the settlement will be formally handed over to the Gram Panchayat.
Families who have already vacated their original residences and surrendered their land to the Forest Department or other departments will be eligible for this rehabilitation facility in addition to the compensation or rehabilitation package provided by the Forest Department.
Ganga Kisan Sahkari Chini Mill in Morna, Muzaffarnagar, to be modernized
The state government has taken a major decision to increase the crushing capacity of the Ganga Kisan Sahkari Chini Mill in Morna, Muzaffarnagar, and modernize the Mill with new technology.
The Cabinet has approved increasing the Mill’s current capacity from 2,500 TCD to 3,500 TCD and later to 5,000 TCD.
Due to dilapidated plant and outdated technology, farmers were not reaping significant benefits. However, the Mill, equipped with new and modern machinery, will not only increase production but also improve operational efficiency.
The greatest benefit will accrue directly to sugarcane farmers. The increased crushing capacity due to new technology will help double sugarcane farmers’ income and ensure the timely payment of sugarcane prices.
This initiative will increase farmers’ income and strengthen their financial standing. This step is crucial to ensuring sugarcane farmers’ rights and strengthening agriculture through the Sahkari Mill.
The establishment of a new Mill equipped with modern machinery will boost the confidence of the local farmers, increase production, and provide employment opportunities.
