Self-Defence Training for Girls a Key Initiative: Minister Dadaji Bhuse

Pune, March 2026 : Maharashtra’s School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse said that the ‘Rani Lakshmibai Self-Defence Training Programme’ is an important initiative aimed at empowering girls with self-protection skills, confidence, and overall personality development. He noted that the programme goes beyond karate training and serves as a comprehensive tool for building resilience and discipline among students.

The minister was speaking at the inauguration of the programme आयोजित under the School Education and Sports Department at Sir Parashurambhau College in Pune. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, education officials, and senior administrators.

Highlighting the importance of self-defence, Bhuse said that it is not merely about physical strength but a vital life skill that instills discipline and courage. He emphasized that education should prepare students to face real-life challenges confidently. With this vision, the government has launched the ‘Rani Lakshmibai Self-Defence Training Programme’ to equip girls with essential survival and life skills.

The initiative has been introduced for girls studying in classes 6 to 12 across the state from the current academic year. The training includes martial arts, sessions conducted by former army personnel, and yoga practices. Upon completion, participants will be awarded certificates. The programme aims to strengthen women’s empowerment by enhancing self-confidence, safety awareness, and mental strength among students.

Bhuse urged all schoolgirls to actively participate in the programme, stating that it will help them become self-reliant and capable of protecting themselves in any situation. He reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritising both physical and mental development alongside academic education.

Mayor Manjusha Nagpure also stressed the need for such initiatives, calling them essential in today’s time. She remarked that self-defence training should not be limited to a one-day activity but should become a lifelong skill. She encouraged girls to rediscover their inner strength and confidence.

During the programme, spiritual speaker Akshay Maharaj Bhosale conducted a session on life skills, while Manisha Chandra from the Art of Living spoke on self-control and inner peace. The training sessions were led by expert trainer Shefujy Shaurya Bhardwaj.

The programme witnessed participation from more than 12,000 students and teachers from over 416 schools under the Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, marking it as a significant step towards empowering young girls across Maharashtra.
